Maudlyn Howell-Nwaogwugwu is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in Texas with extensive experience in inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology/sociology in 1996 and her master’s degree in counseling psychology in 2005. Her professional calling and ministry of help have been shaped by both clinical training and lived experience with trauma. Maudlyn specializes in trauma-focused care, including intergenerational trauma, anxiety, depression, and mood-related concerns. She approaches healing as a scientist of the soul, helping individuals explore emotional, relational, and spiritual wounds, reinterpret painful experiences, and develop healthier internal narratives that restore safety and stability. Inspired by Jeremiah 8:22 and Psalm 1, Maudlyn integrates faith with evidence-based practice. She is EMDR trained and views this work as clearing emotional and spiritual blockages so wounds can heal and lives can become rooted, resilient, and whole. She walks alongside her folks with compassion, offering a space for reflection, restoration, and peace. Her folks are reminded they are not defined by the words of others, but by their Creator—my folks are a Designer Originals. WELCOME HOME!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During the first session, Maudlyn emphasizes that her practice is a judgment-free and emotionally safe space where each person is respected and supported. There is no pressure to share more than one feels ready to discuss, and sessions move at a pace that feels safe and manageable. The initial focus is on building rapport, understanding what brings someone to therapy, and identifying immediate needs and goals. Maudlyn works collaboratively to establish a sense of safety and support while honoring each person’s story and strengths. Her primary goal is the instillation of hope—helping individuals leave the session feeling heard, grounded, and reassured that healing and meaningful change are possible.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Maudlyn specializes in trauma recovery and post-traumatic growth using an integrative, evidence-based approach. She combines EMDR and CBT to help individuals process traumatic experiences, identify unhelpful belief patterns, and develop healthier cognitive and emotional responses. Faith-based integration is available when desired. Her work emphasizes resilience, recovery, and sustained emotional stability.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Maudlyn is best positioned to serve individuals who have experienced both significant and cumulative trauma, including religious or spiritual trauma. She works with those managing anxiety, mood disorders, serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI), and difficulties with anger regulation. Her ideal clients are individuals seeking insight, emotional stability, and meaningful change, and who are ready to address underlying patterns that impact their well-being and relationships.

She is very knowledgeable and kind. Full of compassion. I had an unexpected side-effect from one of the exercises we were doing in preparation for EMDR to try and tackle my trauma. She did not leave me even though our session time ended. She made sure I was stable and to a manageable point of regulation before she let me go. She is willing and able to adapt things for a better client fit, and she won’t knowingly let you jump off the deep end into facing things that are too intense for you.
