Hello, My name is Francis Calero. I am a marriage and family therapist. Originally from Nicaragua, I am bilingual, I speak Spanish. I received my Master's from the University of San Francisco. I have been practicing since 2015 in different areas of mental health. My experience ranges from working with 0-5 children, adolescents, and adults. I come from a Cognitive-behavioral background with family systems work. Throughout the years I have worked with clients who are experiencing: grief and loss, anxiety, recent changes/adjustments in life and depression. Relationship struggles whether personal or professional, Newcomer/immigration/POC experience, and family dynamics. As a clinician, my style is a relaxed, humanistic approach. Emphasizing family history to identify current issues, struggles and/or patterns. A problem-solving frame with areas of exploration and introspection. I allow my client to lead and we work collaboratively on goals and areas of growth. Incorporating psycho-education, solution focused, attachment theory approach when needed. *** Please Note: I am accepting short term clients (under 15 sessions) and have very specific availability during the week. I am only available for client's that are comfortable with biweekly sessions at this time***

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will start with a introduction of ourselves. I will then explore more on the reason for your interest in therapy and any possible goals you have. I will ask assessment questions that help me gather information on your current functioning, home/personal life, history and symptoms. I love to hear your reasoning for seeking therapy and goals or wishes for how therapy will support you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Areas I feel comfortable providing support are anxiety and depression. We work on learning about attachment styles and family dynamics influences on our personality and approach in the world. As a 1st generation POC immigrant, supporting the newcomer, immigrant experience resonates strongly with me. Exploring how we show up in the world and navigate the world. With all client's, the goal is to explore any areas in a person's life that require adjustment, we explore navigating stress, changes, and mindset. A goal for me, is to increase a person's toolkit by learning interventions and methods they can use on a daily basis.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

*** Please Note: I am accepting short term clients (under 15 sessions) and have very specific availability during the week. I am only available for client's that are comfortable with biweekly sessions at this time*** I enjoy working with clients who are eager to learn tools to better support themselves and who want to gain awareness around their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and approach to the world. I enjoy working with children and teenagers who are engaged in sessions and want to learn how to talk about their feelings and identify behaviors. Adults who are interested in showing up to sessions ready to explore history, reflect, and understanding sources causing symptoms. And all clients, who are engaged in understanding themselves, whether it be emotions, responses, behaviors or relationships.
