Our first session together will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss your background of what brings you to therapy. Therapy is a process and will continue to build our work together over time. It's completely normal to feel nervous about your first appointment, but we will take one step at a time and I'll be here to guide you through each step of the process.
I became interested in therapy because of curiosity about human resilience and a desire to help others find strength through challenging circumstances. During my graduate training, I had the opportunity to work with individuals suffering from depression and anxiety. I also had the opportunity to work with couples families and children. I enjoy working with couples that are experiencing conflict and difficulties in their relationship. I find these challenging and at the same time very rewarding, seeing couples emerge from the therapeutic relationship with a new sense of being together in a healthy relationship. I have extensive experience and education in the area of conflict resolution, anger management, and effective communication techniques. I also utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to help individuals challenge their negative, thought processes, helping them to establish more positive thoughts, which will lead to healthier thinking and behaviors. I am a licensed marriage, family, and child therapist with many years of experience. I graduated with a Masters of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology. I have worked in private practice for several years and also for the California Superior Court System as a Department Supervisor of Family Court Services. I have many years of experience working with families, couples, children, and individuals.
If you've been struggling with depression, anxiety, and anger, management issues, I will work with you to help manage these feelings and behaviors. If you are having difficulties in your relationship with a significant other or a work situation, we can explore these difficulties and help you develop a healthy productive relationship with significant others in your life. I'll work with you to create a plan for growth that feels empowering and achievable.
I will utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to challenge negative thoughts, help you to verify if they are true or false thoughts and how they are affecting your feelings and behavior. I will help you to explore more positive ways of thinking which will enable you to feel better and motivate you to make positive changes in your behavior and life.
Utilizing the Gottman method for couples counseling, we will explore more effective ways to communicate for you and your significant other. With better, more effective communication, couples will feel a renewed sense of connection with each other.
