LCSW-C, 13 years of experience
New to Grow
James Jefferson, LISW-CP, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice who takes a person-centered approach to meet clients where they are and provide meaningful support. He is committed to normalizing mental health care and promoting emotional well-being. After earning his Bachelor of Social Work from Virginia State University, James worked with individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions, connecting them to essential services and support. During this time, he recognized a lack of diversity among therapists—an issue that clients frequently raised. This inspired him to further his education and become a therapist, with a focus on increasing representation and creating more inclusive therapeutic spaces.
The initial session is a comprehensive intake appointment that includes a biopsychosocial assessment, the development of an initial treatment plan, and a discussion regarding the recommended frequency of future sessions. Clients are encouraged to share their preferred therapeutic approaches and desired outcomes, helping to shape a personalized path forward. Together, we will collaboratively set clear goals and measurable objectives to track progress throughout the therapeutic journey. I believe in empowering clients to take an active role in their care—your voice and autonomy are central to the healing process.
James creates a supportive and secure environment where clients can explore their vulnerabilities without fear of judgment or repercussions. Utilizing a diverse range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches—including Narrative Therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)—James tailors treatment to meet each individual’s unique needs.
