My name is Leah and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) experienced in & passionate about walking with others through difficult spaces & places in life. I have my Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Dallas Baptist University in 2019, with additional training in working with teens, trauma, and other life issues. I love to incorporate expressive arts techniques, addressing thoughts (CBT), and a mixture of other modalities to best help serve you as an individual. I am a Christian counselor and can approach therapy from this perspective, but am also open & honoring to people with all differing religious perspectives.
In our first session together, after briefly going over logistics & any questions you may have about therapy, my primary goal is to get to know you & understand what brings you to therapy. For adolescents I usually spend additional time building relationship to get to know them better & create a safe environment. In therapy I want you to feel cared for and help you grow. We will go over your primary presenting problems and goals for therapy in the session, which will help us to create a unique plan moving forward. I also want to give you hope in your first session and some practical first steps to take before ending our first session.
With my background I have value for each individual client I see & want to build a positive & caring therapeutic relationship where you are safe to grow to your full potential & your specific unique goals. Building a caring relationship with you is one of my strengths. Additionally identifying root thoughts & beliefs about oneself to begin to heal, change & grow is something I have extensive experience in.
I practice from an eclectic modality including aspects from person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, existential therapy, and other counseling practiced. This allows me to best serve each client on an individual prescriptive basis instead of a cookie cutter, one size fits all, approach.
