Hi, I’m Tyisha. I’m an African American amazing Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey, and I’ve spent the last four years walking alongside individuals and families as they work through life’s challenges. Before becoming an LPC, I worked in the mental health and developmental disabilities (DDD) field for over 19 years, supporting people across Essex, Morris, Dover Township, Union, and Warren Counties. I’ve had the privilege of working with children, families, and individuals from all walks of life—each with their own story, culture, and history. My approach to therapy is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, which means I focus on the here and now, value of self, re-shaping your thinking, offering empathy, acceptance, support without judgment, and how to bring focus to your best self. I also draw from an eclectic therapeutic approach, because no two individuals are the same just familiar experiences.
What You Can Expect: In our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy and value of self as I feel identifying who you are is the first step to any conversation. Together, we’ll explore how to stay present in the moment, build healthy coping strategies, and challenge thought patterns that might be holding you back. We’ll also look at how your worldview has shaped your experiences and explore new ways to value and care for yourself.
A Bit About My Style: I’m a good listener, straightforward but compassionate, and I believe in creating a space that feels safe, honest, and culturally aware. I bring patience, a sense of humor, and a deep respect for your story to every session. I’m also big on confidentiality, trust, and helping you feel empowered in your healing journey.
Who I Work Best With: I support individuals navigating mental health challenges, trauma, domestic violence, substance use, identity exploration (including LGBTQIA2+), developmental disabilities, and relationship struggles—whether within families, with partners, or with yourself. If you're ready to do the work, I’m here to help guide and support you through it.
"I take an eclectic approach to theoretical orientations, drawing from multiple frameworks to meet each client’s unique needs. However, Person-Centered theory remains a cornerstone of my practice due to its emphasis on personal growth and the development of healthy, authentic relationships. This approach supports self-realization and reflection, helping clients to re-structure their moods and thought patterns in a more constructive and empowering way."
