Hello, I am a licensed psychologist that has been practicing for 15 years. I received my doctoral degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and have worked in a variety of health care settings before deciding to build a virtual practice. I am passionate about helping people improve their health and well-being through changing behavior and better regulating emotions. I use an active approach designed to help increase motivation and utilize strengths and resources already available. My career has been devoted to helping people manage chronic health conditions, improve sleep, and cope with chronic pain. Often part of this journey involves processing unresolved trauma and difficult emotions. It is my goal to form an individualized plan to help meet your needs and focus on your whole health!
In our first session we will complete brief introductions along with an opportunity for me to learn more about what you are currently experiencing and needing from treatment so that we can start the goal setting process.
Having worked with clients for the past 15 years, I have developed an approach that focuses on identifying what underlies behavioral patterns and setting specific behavioral goals to lead to measurable progress. My goal is to partner with you to better help you understand yourself, develop self-compassion, and meet the goals you have for your future.
Amanda Burger offers therapy covered by Buckeye Health Plan, Buckeye Health Plan (Managed Medicaid), CareSource, Medicaid - Buckeye Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Ohio.
My general approach includes emotional, behavioral, and cognitive techniques. The specific strategies I use with each client depends on what will be most helpful in each unique circumstance.
I have expertise helping you identify patterns related to sleep that perpetuate the cycle of sleepless nights and frustration. Together, we will create an evidence-based plan that is tailored to your circumstances to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and ultimately change your relationship to sleep.
Starting with my early work helping with patients who experience chronic pain, I have observed the role that trauma has on health and emotional functioning. Throughout my career I have continued to learn different trauma focused strategies and believe it is essential to process the difficult experiences in our lives in a supportive environment like psychotherapy. Along with techniques to help you manage unpleasant emotions, I use spoken, written, and experiential methods to address this goal.
