Hi, I'm Kristin Jones, a Licensed Professional Counselor based in the state of Georgia. I earned my undergraduate degree from Howard University and completed my Masters in Mental Health Counseling at New York University. With over a decade of experience in the field of mental health, my journey began in New York City, where I conducted community family therapy. Upon relocating to the Metro Atlanta Area and becoming licensed in Georgia, I continued my mission of working with families to create harmonious environments. My specialization lies in assisting clients dealing with anxiety, trauma, and neurodivergent conditions, such as ADHD. I adopt a problem-solving and solution-focused approach to identify and implement effective tools that can positively impact your life. Together, we can navigate the challenges you face and work towards achieving your personal goals and well-being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, you can anticipate an open and adaptable conversation focused on exploring the reasons that have led you to seek therapy. We will engage in a dialogue where I will inquire about your current life circumstances and how any mental health symptoms you may be experiencing are affecting your daily life. Additionally, I will ask questions to gain insight into your background and personal experiences. It's important to note that during our initial session, my intention is not to delve into discussions about trauma, even if trauma is the underlying reason for your decision to seek therapy. Instead, this session will serve as an opportunity for us to establish rapport, gather essential information, and lay the foundation for our therapeutic journey together. This approach allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and gradually delve into more sensitive topics in subsequent sessions when you feel comfortable and ready.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I believe my greatest strengths lie in my ability to truly listen to my clients' stories and uncover the strengths, resilience, and courage that often already exist within them. It brings me immense joy to remind my clients of their inherent worth and magnificence, especially when they are grappling with challenging circumstances. Additionally, I take pride in my capacity to simplify and make psychoeducational topics approachable. This enables clients to easily integrate therapeutic concepts and strategies into their daily lives, making the process of personal growth and healing more accessible and practical. My commitment to empowering clients with knowledge and fostering a deep sense of self-worth contributes to my effectiveness as a provider.

My treatment methods

Compassion Focused

I wholeheartedly prioritize assessing how individuals treat themselves, particularly during challenging moments, with every client. My approach involves implementing Compassion-Focused Therapy, which aims to cultivate self-kindness and encourage self-compassion, especially when facing difficult circumstances. I firmly believe that fostering this mindset creates an optimal environment for nurturing healthy and enduring transformation in one's life. By instilling a sense of self-compassion and grace, we can work together to promote positive and sustainable change.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

A significant aspect of my work with clients centers on enhancing coping skills. A key starting point in this journey involves equipping individuals with knowledge about mindfulness and practical ways to incorporate it into their daily lives. Mindfulness techniques serve as invaluable tools to manage stress, regulate emotions, and navigate life's challenges more effectively. By imparting this mindfulness knowledge, I aim to empower clients to develop a greater sense of self-awareness and resilience, ultimately enhancing their capacity to cope with the complexities of life.

EMDR

I completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in February 2023 and am actively pursuing full certification as an EMDR therapist. I integrate the skills and resources I've acquired through this training into my practice. Currently, I am engaged in ongoing consultation for this modality to ensure the highest level of service quality. Please note that for clients specifically interested in EMDR therapy, I can only accept self-pay arrangements at this time.

Psychoeducation

I believe the best way to tackle a problem is to fully understand it and so one of my main goals is helping my clients to understand their symptoms, diagnosis, and whatever mental health topic that will aid in the healing journey.
