Welcome! My name is Jennifer Macias, and I am a Licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in North Carolina who also sees individuals residing in California- all via tele-health. I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2011. I have worked within a variety of settings and I have been in private practice for over three years. We all encounter challenging points in life that can feel unmanageable and I am here to support you and empower you to successfully navigate these challenges. I am inclusive and welcome clients dealing with a variety of issues including but not limited to grief and loss, chronic illness, life transitions, navigating family dynamics, anxiety and depression. I like to tailor and individualize my approach to meet each of my client's unique needs. It is a privilege to be able to do this work and support my clients with their mental health.
If you're working through a challenging time, know that relief is possible. I focus on creating safe spaces so I can get to know the real you, what you're dealing with and how it's impacting you. Initially, I will focus on getting to know you and getting a background on your situation. This will help provide a foundation and context for what you're dealing with. We will then begin to practice coping skills and other strategies to manage what you're going through. The problems you are dealing with will likely impact all aspects of your life, but thankfully we can work through them. I use evidence based practices and will create a concrete plan & work through it together until you find relief. I will help you navigate difficult things, teach you to work through them and will support you through it all.
I am inclusive, compassionate, non-judgmental and knowledgeable. I help my clients explore obstacles with concerns related to grief, anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I help my clients uncover patterns, learn to practice new techniques and ultimately improve mood and quality of life.
With over 13 years of experience, I have worked with diverse populations and I believe my experience has helped me serve and honor individuals of all ages and backgrounds in a respectful manner that honors my client's values and needs. Having said that, it is important for me to continue to strive to learn and and grow as a person and professional. I will help you identify the goals that are most important to you and will help you find the tools you need to effectively deal with difficult situations and emotions. I will provide you with a safe and caring space where we can collaborate to build upon your strengths, learn new skills and work toward making positive changes.
I utilize evidence-based practices like CBT, this is helpful for some clients dealing with depression and anxiety. I am eclectic and will also incorporate other treatment methods depending on the problem at hand.
I believe in the value and practice of trauma informed care. I believe this practice promotes a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing.
I have extensive experience with grief and loss and incorporate grief therapy when dealing with loss. The grieving process is an important part of healing and learning to adjust to life with loss and change.
