About me

My name is Jennifer Macias, LCSW and I specialize in providing therapy to adults experiencing grief and loss. I also support clients experiencing relationship challenges, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, and problems with self-esteem or personal growth. I'm trauma-informed and approach therapy with compassion and curiosity. As a Latina of Mexican-American descent, I also see clients who prefer to do sessions in Spanish.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I will get a detailed background and establish goals with you. Topics I bring up in session may include relationship/family dynamics, attachment styles, boundaries, history of losses/hardships, past experiences and their impact on you today, behavioral and thinking patterns, self-compassion, and coping.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am inclusive, non-judgmental and knowledgeable. I am continuously learning, collaborating, and looking to grow as a professional. I participate in continuing education related to grief and loss and a variety of concerns.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My own experiences with grief and loss eventually led me to do this work. I also have a background working in inpatient palliative care where I learned to support patients with serious illness. My experience has helped me understand how to navigate the medical system and in supporting individuals who are experiencing illness and loss. I enjoy working with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients and my services are available to every person regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, class, ability status, natal sex, military status, spiritual practice, marital status, age, sexual orientation or citizenship status.

Jennifer brought a kind and calm presence to every session, which was encouraging and helped me feel comfortable opening up—something that has historically been difficult for me. Her thoughtful questions helped me make connections I hadn’t seen before, and her insight has given me tools I know will be helpful throughout my journey.

I'm a middle-aged widower, a foster child, a child of immigrants who works in refugee work. In my grief journey, I turned to Jennifer after a period of months in deep depression, in total isolation in a new city with cobwebs covering my door. Together, we talked through my grief, building a chosen family, and allowing myself to seek and find happiness. As I leave this review, I am preparing a weekend with a partner, amongst new friends, life going right. And if things go wrong, I feel prepared.
