LCSW, 6 years of experience
Hello! My name is Taylor. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) out of Hampton Roads Virginia. I received my master’s degree in Social Work with Integrated Behavioral Health Area of Study from University of Kentucky, and have been practicing for 6 years. I have experience treating child, adolescents, teens, and adults navigate various needs ranging from: anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, stress, adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and young adulthood. At this time, I only work with adults on Grow Therapy.
One of the most important components I explain to clients during their intake is this: "You are in the driver's seat of your own healing journey. Everyone knows or has a general understanding of where they want to end up or what goals they want to accomplish. Allow me to be the GPS, I will provide you with route recommendations (treatment options, techniques, etc.) and you get to pick which path/s you wish to travel." During our first session together, I will ask you relevant questions about various aspects of your life to begin painting a picture of what challenges you are facing.
Throughout my time in the field, I have learned that a genuine, honest, and collaborative team approach between client and therapist is essential to treatment. This frame of view allows us to discover the root cause of your challenges and identify your goals in an empathetic and open space.
Seeking support in navigating the complexities of life can definitely be a vulnerable experience, but oh so exciting and liberating at the same time. I absolutely love working with clients who are cautious at taking that scary, but meaningful step towards healing.
CBT is the gold standard for various mental health concerns. I have experience utilizing this modality to treat variety issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, adjustment issues, life transitions, and stress.
CPT is one of the gold standards for trauma and PTSD recovery by the APA, VA/DOD, and International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies CPGs. While using this modality, I help clients discover biased beliefs or "stuck points" that keep them stuck in their recovery. It is a time limited (6-18sessions) at least weekly treatment model. Clients can begin to notice a decrease in their trauma and associated symptoms in as little as two sessions.
TF-CBT is a gold standard for helping children-teens recover from traumatic experiences. While working with a client and their family, I help them learn various techniques to relax the body, manage emotions, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and learn safety skills.
Change is hard, especially if we question the concern we have is even "a problem." During sessions, I help clients explore what areas either they or their loved ones wish for them to focus on, and navigate the stages of change.
Psychoeducation is typically used within my clinical work to help clients learn about their areas of focus. More specifically, to increase awareness of their mental health concerns, triggers/reminders, thinking patterns, coping and relaxation skills that align with them, and as needed resources.

I had looked for someone with specific bullet points in their bio. I left my intake with a direction and confidence in my choice.
