LPC, 6 years of experience
New to Grow
I am a licensed, nationally certified counselor with over six years of experience counseling underserved adolescents and young adults in an urban environment. I am trauma-informed, culturally competent, strengths-based counselor who is passionate about empowering people to discover and utilize their own unique gifts and strengths. I prioritize building relationships, which allows me to really know my clients and show up for them in the ways they need.
The first session is all about getting to know each other to ensure we are a good fit. I want to know what motivated you to seek therapy, your goals for the time we work together, and some background information. It is also a chance for you to decide if you feel comfortable with me, with my approach, and if you think we will be a good fit.
Authenticity, curiosity, and fidelity are the qualities that allow me to build strong therapeutic connections. To best serve you, I constantly evaluate my approach and interventions to ensure they are congruent with your strengths and goals, and that you are being appropriately challenged in a way that feels safe and supportive. I utilize a variety of modalities, including CBT, REBT, and DBT to identify distorted thoughts and explore the relationship between beliefs and behaviors. Elements of solution-focused and Gestalt therapies are also used, when appropriate. Above all, I am a strengths-based counselor and want to see you tap into the potential you already possess.
My passion is figuring out the "whys" of life. If you are interested in understanding yourself better to make positive change, I’d love to work with you. I will focus on helping you reach your goals by recognizing unhealthy patterns, identifying root causes, and building skills that allow you to move forward. We will also work on healthy and effective communication, so the progress made in sessions can be utilized in all areas of your life; whether that means advocating for yourself at work, strengthening your relationships, improving your inner dialogue, or anything in between. My experience and background have positioned me to work especially well with people struggling with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and family/relationship issues.
Treatment methods and interventions must always be tailored to the individual, but everyone has strengths. The starting point is identifying the client's strengths--from there, I work with the client to create a treatment plan that utilizes those strengths to meet an identified goal.
