LPC, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
Greetings! My name is Anwar Johnson a licensed professional counselor (LPC) from Philadelphia, PA. I am a graduate of Morehouse College (B.A.) and Howard University (M.Ed). I have worked in various roles of the mental health industry ranging from social work to crisis management and am the executive director of The Greater Undoing, a private practice where I implement my original therapeutic model, Identity & Role Rehabilitation (IRR), servicing over 300+ clients in the Pennsylvania area since 2022.
First sessions with me are pretty straightforward. I enjoy using initial sessions to break the ice in an effort to build rapport so we can feel more comfortable with each other. I like to focus on giving you space to free associate and articulate in your own words what the issue is and what you would like to accomplish in therapy.
My honesty, optimism, and thoughtfulness are three things you will definitely take from our time together. I can be straightforward and assertive as well as tender and patient depending on what you need at that time. I know how to let you direct what healing looks like and I feel confident in my ability to lead if ever you feel confused or lost.
A good clinician is like a clean mirror. I hope to be a portal for others to connect with themselves on an intimate level. You can expect me to be encouraging, empowering, and challenging on your way to achieving your therapeutic goals.
CBT is central to how I work providing my clients and I with a way to analyze and treat negative patterns of logic, thought, speech, action, emotional response and perception.
SFBT is essential in my work with clients as it enables us to hone in on the immediacy of creating coping skills, learning better quality of life management skills, role-playing how to healthily communicate in stressful/overwhelming situations, as well as but not limited to processing severe emotional grief.
Existential Therapy is crucial in my treatment as it opens the door for clients and I to philosophize on the ‘why’ of things. This is useful for creating a safe environment to question habits, thoughts, beliefs, values, and traditions absent judgement and discrimination.
My experience providing care for couples has included helping loved ones work through infidelity, developing conflict resolution skills/boundaries for navigating disagreements, educating on how unresolved individual trauma impacts relationship dynamics, creating an environment where loved ones can safely assert a desire for love/mutual understanding, processing differing ideas about gender roles, promoting effective co-parenting, as well as confronting and managing addiction.
RTT is administered through collaborating with clients to investigate and prevent the on-going intergenerational miseducation/trauma resulting from White Supremacy. Life is first validated as being actively lived in resistance to systems of oppression then contextualized across areas of people activity that perpetuate White Supremacy including economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, sex, religion, and war.
