Hi there! I'm Nancy, and I am so excited to share a bit about myself with you! Growing up, I experienced some pretty challenging situations within my family, and as a result, I spent much of my childhood in the foster care system and moving from place to place never being able to call a place my home. These experiences gave me a unique perspective on the importance of early intervention and prevention in the mental health field. It was through my experience as a survivor, and my own personal struggles that I discovered my passion for helping others. As a mental health professional, I've had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals, but one experience that stands out to me the most is that of my younger brother. Despite struggling with reading and writing, he was consistently overlooked and eventually turned to drugs, never finishing high school. It's a heartbreaking situation, and I often wonder what could have been different if someone had taken the time to help him earlier. Unfortunately, my brother now suffers from bipolar disorder and experiences panic attacks due to the overwhelming sense of hopelessness and loss he feels. It's because of him that I've dedicated my career to helping others before they reach that point of no return. The point where there is nothing more than resignation and accepting what is than what one could become. Overall, I'm incredibly passionate about what I do and am eager to continue making a positive impact on the lives of children, youth, and families in need. I'm excited about the opportunity to get to know you and be of support to you in your toughest moments in life. Warmly, Nancy Gonzalez-McKenzie

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the first session, I want my client to know that it is an hour that is all about them. It is the moment they get to share their side of the story, their perspective of what is currently impairing their ability to be fully themselves in order for me to understand what their goals and motivations to change are. I want my clients to ask me questions as well and see if I am the right fit for them in regards to my personality, background and belief system in order to make sure that they feel comfortable allowing me to be a part of their life.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My biggest strengths are that I am charismatic, compassionate and always ready to meet you where you are. My specialty is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, therefore much of our work together will be based off of your own ability to not only be receptive to change but motivated to take action. I am not the expert during our time together, you are the expert and I will be taking your lead.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Clients who make the best fit with me are ones that are interested in making a meaninful connection with their therapist, are open and honest and motivated to make changes in their daily life. People who have a history of struggling to form and maintain meainful change in their life often have difficulty being held accountable because others are judgmental and not supportive. I want myclients to know that I am the type of therapist that will meet that person where they are and help build them up at theirown pace with othing but compassion and understanding.

I've unfortunately have been in and out of therapy since I was 9 years old. Due to this, I've met a handful of therapists. Only two have saved my life, Nancy is one of the two. She is very thoughtful with her patients/clients (I never know what to classify myself) and helps in every way she is able to. I feel I have made incredible strides from when we started treatment to today. I have a long way to go to become who I want to be, but I've also come a long way. Thank you, Nancy.
