My name is Don Karcher and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the State of Ohio. I also carry my Licensed Chemical Dependence Counselor credentials in Ohio. I have been practicing as a Social Worker for close to 20 years, and have had experience with individual and group therapy in all walks of life, ranging of any age and gender. While most of my experience has been in community mental health, I have had some professional experience in private practice as well. My commitment to my clients I work with is paramount, and put the most importance on client care and client well-being. I have worked with clients with some backgrounds in Addictions, Severe and Persistent Mental Health, as well as Anger Management concerns. I have also worked with clients ranging on the spectrum of mental health, from mild to severe levels. I hope to make a difference in all my clients' lives, and will continue to strive to deliver quality care to any client that I work with.
When meeting for the first time with me, I will gather a comprehensive background, and begin to formulate a plan of treatment that is client-focused, as well as client-driven. When leaving that first session, I hope to have a clear understanding of what the client wants to get out of counseling, as well as leaving them empowered.
I am trained in delivering most forms of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which includes levels of anger management, addictions treatment, as well as generalist mental health therapy. I tend to bring in worksheets at most sessions that help client to grow in a direction that they want, and can challenge thinking up until the next session. I am also trained extensively with motivational interviewing, which can help to guide clients in a way that they can feel empowered.
Some areas that are my biggest strengths are continuing to engage clients in active and reflective listening. This is part of who I am, to be able to devote the entire session directly to them. I also will help to challenge clients to make more positive decisions that lead them on a path to where they want to see themselves in the future.
