Is emotional upheaval getting in the way of your moving forward with your life? I would love the opportunity to help you to sort through the sources of the emotions, help to make them more manageable, and help you to regain some sense of direction and progress for your life. Working toward more refined beliefs and understanding about emotions, circumstances, and responses to them can be helpful. In my roughly 30 years as a psychologist I have mostly worked with people who have problems with anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, relationship problems, and aging issues. I have worked with ages ranging from elementary school to 70s and a little older. I have found that experience allows me to realize client needs more quickly than in my early years in practice, and hope to use this experience to your benefit. Note that online scheduling is limited, and my practice schedule is Monday and Tuesday from 1pm to 6pm, and Wednesday from 12pm to 5pm. If you need assistance with scheduling, please contact me via the Grow Therapy messaging platform. I typically respond to messages during regular business hours. Please also note that I do not provide opinions about disability or fitness to return to work or other activities.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I try to provide a great deal of flexibility to clients in an initial session. There are often times that clients need some time to sort through a variety of issues to determine what their priorities may be for addressing these issues. The primary questions are likely to be to clarify an issue at hand. Near the end of a session, I will usually discuss a prospective approach to addressing the main issues that have been addressed up to that point, and accept that there are likely to be changes in priorities from one week to the next.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

When I look back over the course of my career, it is hard to say that experience is not a significant strength. I realize things that might be going on with someone more quickly than in the early years of practice. I also see myself as good at encouraging people to find and use the strengths that they have in the process of improving their lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I try to help clients improve their ability to identify any cognitive distortions that impact their emotional states, and make distinctions between behaviors that will have positive or negative impacts on their circumstances. I believe that clients will have the best long-term benefit from understanding these principles at a conceptual level.

Richard offered a very direct approach to starting to think about the issues we discussed, while still being friendly. You can tell he has tons of experience and feels genuine in the way he wants to offer help and solutions. Great listener with great feedback.

Dr. Lewis is a kind kind soul who knows how to teach people how to help themselves. I really look forward to every session even if I don’t have quite so much to talk about.
