New to Grow
Hi, I’m Jose! I have over 10 years of experience supporting individuals facing mental health challenges across a wide range of settings, including schools, community programs, residential treatment, and inpatient care. My work has allowed me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, and I value meeting each person where they are. Outside of my professional life, I love being outdoors and staying active. Mountain biking is my favorite sport (right next to soccer), and music has always been a big part of who I am. I grew up listening to many different genres in both English and Spanish and dancing to anything with a good beat—something that’s still true today. I am also colorblind, and for the first three years of college I proudly called my “brown” shoes my favorite…until I learned they were actually green. At my core, I believe in moving through life with kindness and openness. We need compassion now more than ever. I also believe that laughter (and crying) is medicine so there is always space for that in our sessions. I believe that we are human beings before any title we hold—whether that’s parent, partner, caregiver, or professional. Each of us carries many parts of ourselves, and navigating them comes with its own challenges. Sometimes this journey begins in childhood; other times it starts after a major life event or even during a meaningful achievement. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to go through it alone. In our work together, my goal is to walk alongside you. I strive to go with the flow, learn together, be honest and supportive, empower you, and follow your lead while offering thoughtful perspective. I see therapy as a collaborative process rooted in trust, respect, and curiosity.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
First sessions are all about getting to know the “who” and the “what” of you. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship begins with genuine human connection, so I’ll be curious about your hobbies, likes, dislikes, passions, challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. We’ll also talk about expectations and the shared responsibility we both hold in this therapeutic partnership. It’s important to me that we’re on the same page, moving in the same direction, and working toward goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. Beyond (and including) the first session, you can expect my style to be casual and laid-back, while also thoughtful and engaging. I enjoy gently challenging your thinking to support growth, so our work together will feel conversational, grounded in curiosity, directness, and guided by reflection.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am fluent in both English and Spanish and can provide therapy services in either language—you tell me! My approach is eclectic and adaptable, meaning I draw from different therapeutic styles based on what you need, when you need it. I tailor therapy to you, not the other way around. This flexibility helps create space for difficult conversations with yourself (and sometimes with others), for sitting with uncomfortable emotions, and for moving toward healing, self-compassion, and growth. My goal is to support change in a way that feels meaningful, efficient, and truly centered around you and your life.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
If you’re willing to take an active, ongoing role in better understanding your "who, what, when, where, and how", you’re already halfway there—and that’s exactly where you’ll find me, ready to walk alongside you. I have worked with individuals of all ages who are navigating a wide range of mental health challenges. My primary areas of focus include anxiety, depression, parenting and family conflict, and trauma. If any of these resonate with you, I believe I can offer the tools, strategies, and genuine care needed to support you in finding your own path toward healing and wellness.
Eclectic
My general approach is eclectic, meaning I adapt my methods to fit your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. I draw from different therapeutic styles depending on what will best support you in the moment. This allows therapy to remain flexible, relevant, and centered around your goals, experiences, and pace.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I integrate DBT skills to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier interpersonal relationships. I use this approach to help clients learn how to sit with difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed, communicate their needs more effectively, and find balance between acceptance and change
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge them, and replace them with more balanced and realistic perspectives. I also focus on building practical coping skills and strategies that clients can apply in daily life to manage anxiety, depression, and stress more effectively.
Trauma Informed Care
I practice therapy through a trauma-informed lens that prioritizes safety, trust, empowerment, and choice. I recognize how past experiences can shape present emotions and behaviors, and I work to create a space where clients feel respected and in control. My approach focuses on building stability, resilience, and self-compassion while supporting healing at a pace that feels right to you.
