Hello, My name is Karenna Lang and I am a licensed master's level clinical therapist. My educational background includes master's degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the University of London. I am licensed to practice in the State of Michigan as well as the State of Connecticut. If you are facing challenges in your life and are considering therapy I am happy to assist. Many of us experience issues with anxiety, confidence, and self-esteem. Emotions, thoughts and behaviors can be very challenging. It is my goal to assist clients with understanding how these three components are interrelated and to assist clients with empowering themselves to achieve increased awareness, introspection and insight and gain a happier life. Are you faced with worry? Do you find yourself overthinking and experiencing racing thoughts? Perhaps you experience social anxiety. Are you facing a history of family trauma? Or perhaps, issues with communication and conflict in a relationship? Perhaps you are dealing with a stressful matter related to your career, or educational endeavors. Or, you may be dealing with identity issues and/or gender changes. These are just some of the examples of the topics I can address with you. My primary areas of interest include persons suffering from anxiety, persons with a history of family trauma, and individuals and couples experiencing problems with communication and conflicts. I also enjoy working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. Whatever issues you may be facing, it is a courageous step to seek and obtain counseling services and I am happy to offer a friendly approach and a safe, confidential, respectful, and supportive environment.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we will begin with brief introductions, then explore the specific concerns you are facing. Just starting therapy can be a challenge for some people. You are welcome to ask questions regarding my work and style of therapy so that you can decide if you will be comfortable working with me. It is important to work as an effective team. On going sessions will include exploration of situations, interactions, emotions and behaviors that are significant in your life. Both your present and past will be important to discuss. Identifying priorities, goals and objectives to achieve improvements for yourself will also be a focus in sessions. Introspection and insight will be an important focus as well. Tailoring strategies that will assist you will also be a essential topic for discussion. Life can be very challenging. You are a unique individual and you deserve to be happy. My own goal is to serve as a resource for you to resolve issues and develop improvements in your life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Our world can be a terrifying horrific place. It can also be a joyful beautiful place. How we were raised, the challenges we receive, and the dysfunction or healthy styles of what we learned to be "normal" are all contributing factors to our personal mental health. My passion is to embrace all diversity. I have a special interest in working with persons who experienced childhood trauma and how to assist them with gaining their own voice and learning how to dissolve and move beyond the pain they were caused. In addition, I am strongly motivated to work with members of the LGBTQ+ population. To be true to oneself is awesome and it deserves respect.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a form of psychotherapy that addresses anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and PTSD, as well as chronic pain issues. During a session symptoms and feelings are discussed, goals and objectives are identified. Once problems are identified assistance is provided to break down primary issues into manageable parts in order to assist clients with gaining further control to understand, manage and remedy their situations, emotions and behaviors. Some examples of some specific interventions include identifying negative thoughts and/or problematic behaviors, exploring the cause for such thoughts and behaviors and examining potential strategies to challenge such thoughts and behaviors.

Eclectic

A variety of techniques are implemented in this form of therapy. It can also be considered as integrative threrapy, meaning that various types of interventions are combined as a customized form of treatment for each individual. This may include methods from psychodynamic, interpersonal, behavioral therapies, mindfulness based approach, humanistic therapy, as well as many other other forms of intervention. This approach is often used in order to address a variety of issues including anxiety, PTSD, transgender related concerns, relationship issues, social interactions, communication, attachment issues and a various other problems unique to each individual.

Couples Counseling

This form of therapy addresses the various interactions between a couple including communication, trust, underlying contributing factors to conflicts, emotions, response patterns and how to make effective changes to benefit each individual and their relationship as a team.
