LPC, 10 years of experience
I believe my role as a therapist is similar to both a detective and a tour guide in helping you navigate and explore who you are, where you've been, who you want to become, and where you want to go. I am also a personal trainer, certified nutrition coach, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, providing separate services in those areas as well.
I believe that psychotherapy is a fundamentally relational process. With adults I emphasize developing mood regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal relationships, and self-efficacy. With athletes and other performance-driven individuals I focus on the complexities of training, integration, and personal identity.
I emphasize a holistic approach based on integrative wellness (including nutrition, fitness, and breath work). I have more than 10 years of experience working with trauma and personality disorders and frequently employ psychodynamic, person-centered, attachment theory, DBT, and mentalization-based interventions.
I specialize in working with athletes, health care workers, and first-responders; persons who are high-commitment professionals and resilient yet isolated individuals. Often times we have a strong identity tied to our work or sport, well developed physical intuition, experience acute and chronic trauma associated with extreme lifestyles and obscure scheduling, and still contend with identity conflict, under appreciation, and inadequate self-care. When we define ourselves by our capacity for action, skill, and grit; exist in a high-stress, often misunderstood world; and constantly give of ourselves, sometimes we need help.
Attachments are the root of our connection to other people. Their influence and impact on our development is immeasurable. Understanding how attachment "styles" develop and impact on our tenancies, both maladaptive and to cope, is an extremely valuable tool in therapy.
I use DBT skills to help clients develop skill to tolerate distress, regulate their emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and cultivate mindfulness.
One of the most important interventions a therapist can provide is listening. I try to listen as carefully as possible to my clients and provide unique reflections that both evoke insight within the client (in a way they may not have heard what they were saying before) and to highlight repetitions or oddities of speech or behavior that are curious either by their presence or absence.
Above all, my goal is to help my clients. As such, I am open to a diverse array of tools, methods, and practices to achieve the goal of becoming a better version of themselves.

I chose Austin because his bio stated he had experience working with PTSD and I was struggling tremendously at the time with that. He has been instrumental in my own healing journey in every aspect. He has provided me with the tools to help myself through acute crisis as well as long term stabilization. I barely recognize myself (in a good way) a year later and feel that Austin was a huge part of that success.
