Hi, I'm Kory van Unen, LCSW. I am a licensed clinical social worker and I earned my master's degree in social welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). My approach to therapy is collaborative and client-centered. I work with adults in individual therapy to support treatment goals in areas such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and self-esteem. My goal is to guide clients on a journey toward deeper self-awareness, resilience, and a more fulfilling life. As a clinician, I provide comprehensive psychotherapy services tailored to a client's unique needs. This includes a thorough assessment, diagnosis, personalized treatment planning, and individualized therapy. I draw on an array of therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), trauma-informed therapy, and solution-focused therapy, among others. Modalities are chosen to align with treatment goals and empower clients toward lasting change.
During an initial session, we will explore current challenges, goals, and any prior therapeutic experiences, shaping a treatment plan tailored to a client's needs and aspirations. This session is designed to gather information and ensure that we are a good therapeutic fit before working together.
I have dedicated my career to helping others navigate life’s challenges, overcome obstacles, and find greater clarity and peace. I am passionate about supporting personal growth and fostering meaningful healing. My priority is to create a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free environment to ensure clients feel safe, supported, and heard.
I work best with highly motivated clients who are actively engaged in the treatment process. I enjoy working with adults of all ages, focusing on issues such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, self-esteem, adjustment disorders, and women's issues. Together, we can work on uncovering effective coping strategies, strengthening relationships, and exploring tools to overcome challenges and reach treatment goals.
I focus primarily on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients overcome issues such as anxiety and depression. This is an evidence-based techniques to empower individuals to challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping strategies.
I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to assist clients in embracing their thoughts and feelings while committing to personal values. This modality focuses on helping individuals cultivate psychological flexibility, enabling them to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and purpose.
I often apply Humanistic therapy to foster personal growth and self-discovery in clients. By fostering empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authentic connection, this modality emphasizes a safe space for individuals to explore their feelings and experiences.
I focus on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help individuals understand and process their emotions. I utilize EFT techniques to assist clients in identifying emotional patterns, fostering self-compassion, and enhancing emotional regulation. This can empower individuals to build healthier relationships with themselves and others, promoting emotional healing and personal growth.
