DR. MARY ANNE GUNTER, PhD, LPC, LMFT, CFTP, CATP Welcome, where a caring, respectful, and supportive approach awaits you. I'm Dr. Mary Anne Gunter, and I earned both a MS and PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy. I enjoy very much working with women's issues, trauma, parenting challenges, boundaries, communication skills. I am specially trained in working with challenges facing blended families. I am trained in EMDR, CPT, TF-CBT. I also provide CPT-SA, which addresses sexual trauma. I provide an IFS-informed EMDR approach. I'm a Recognized Provider in the "Smart Stepfamilies" program, a Certified Facilitator in Prepare Enrich premarital-marital program, and a Certified Facilitator in the "One Heart, Two Homes" coparenting curriculum, useful for presenting a certificate to a family court judge. I was the national recipient of the Feldman Award by NCFR, and have completed exhaustive research on macrosystemic issues impacting the incarcerated parent and family system. I am a Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy.
I'm warm, real, and genuine. What you see is what you get. I offer respect, empathy, care, listening, an approach that is non-judgmental. Some folks want to be held gently accountable and I will do that if that's the approach you want. Some folks just want a therapist to listen and care. I can do that. With all clients from all walks of life, I offer the same level of care, respect, dignity.
I'm as human as you are. I've done my own therapy work. I work very hard to treat my client the same way I'd want to to be treated. I make sure my therapy sessions are a safe space, where you feel welcome, respected. You can say what you want. Feel what you want. No judgments. We'll look at strengths (and I bet you have more than you might believe). We might even laugh! Who knew, right? :) Welcome here.
I take a strengths-based, optimistic and respecful approach with all clients from all walks of life. I enjoy so much working with adult female clients and understand their concerns, and how their minds and brains work. I love working with parents as they try to parent the best they can in a busy and changing world. I work with grief of all types, and won't tell a client "you should be over it by now". I work alot with issues of shame, perfectionism, trust, forgiveness (they're not the same thing). I passionately believe in building a life that you manage, instead of life managing you. I can help with organizational skills, building a life of self-care that is genuine, authentic, and incorporates mind, body, and care for the spirit. I bring alot of Brene Brown in to our therapy. For clients who prefer, I offer a caring, Christ-based approach and believe that Christ is the ultimate Therapist.
