Hello, I'm Shauntae Walker, I can't wait to meet you and get to know you. I’m a trauma-informed Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor dedicated to helping adolescents and adults feel grounded, understood, and empowered in their healing journey. I offer an affirming space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients, centering care that is culturally responsive, compassionate, and collaborative. Together, we focus on building insight, resilience, and meaningful change.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first appointment is typically focused on assessment and treatment planning. We’ll review important background information, discuss current stressors and strengths, and begin identifying goals for therapy. I strive to make this process feel supportive rather than clinical, and you’re encouraged to ask questions at any time.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My therapeutic approach blends trauma-informed care with EMDR techniques and a genuine, down-to-earth style. I believe humor, when thoughtfully used, can help clients feel more at ease and connected in the therapy space while doing deep healing work. This balance allows clients to engage in therapy that feels both effective and approachable.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I support adolescents and adults facing trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and identity-related concerns. I am especially aligned with clients seeking affirming, culturally responsive care and practical tools to support healing and emotional balance.
EMDR
Trauma can live in the body and nervous system long after an event has passed. I have extensive experience working with trauma using EMDR-informed care, helping clients safely process distressing memories and reduce emotional reactivity. Our work focuses on building stability first, then gently addressing past experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or intrusive. You remain in control of the pace, and we move forward together with compassion and care.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I use CBT to help clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives. Sessions are collaborative and practical, with tools you can apply in everyday life to manage anxiety, depression, and stress more effectively.
Strength-Based
Strengths-based therapy focuses on identifying and building upon the skills, resilience, and abilities you already have. Rather than only focusing on problems, we work together to recognize what’s working, past successes, and inner strengths that can support meaningful change. This approach is empowering, collaborative, and especially helpful for clients looking to increase confidence, motivation, and self-trust while navigating life’s challenges.
