I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. I have over 20 years of experience working with adults experiencing addiction, mood disorders and hold additional certifications in trauma and DBT. I most frequently utilize CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic theory. The first few sessions are focused upon building the therapeutic relationship, helping you to feel comfortable and establishing goals. Treatment will focus upon resolving your immediate concerns while developing long term resiliency skills and addressing underlying factors that contribute to overall health.
We will explore your needs, strengths, and preferences for treatment. As we get started, we will discuss what resources I bring to the relationship, an approach to treatment and develop small goals for the initial sessions. We all have strengths to build upon.
Prior to entering private practice, I had the opportunity to work with individuals in community practice for 17 years. Those experiences afforded me the opportunity to assist individuals with varying needs and strengths which has given me a great appreciation for the human spirit. It has also equipped me with a wealth of knowledge of the mental health and judicial system in Virginia.
I very much enjoy working with individuals who experience alcohol/drug addictions and mood disorders.
