Marcia Porter, LCSW Hello, I am a California-based licensed clinical therapist, with over 18 years of clinical experience. I have a very rich background working in community mental health, (adult outpatient) families, (both single and blended) and some work with adults in private practice. I have enjoyed working with assisting adults with reconnecting with their families and dealing with parenting challenges (learning to establish clear boundaries). As well as assisting adults with life transitional stages and issues, helping them to be more adaptable, setting goals, (if possible) and accepting where they are in their life, and how to navigate, and move forward.
In our first session, we will do introductions and share a little more about the client and my background as a therapist. I would want to build some rapport and then find out why they are seeking therapy now at this time in their lives. I would want to know a little more about what is going on in their lives that is causing the -stress, depression, or anxiety/or concern in their lives at this time in their lives. I would provide some measure of empathy, active listening, and some support for the client. We would make plans for the next follow up session either weekly or for biweekly sessions.
Some of my strengths are working with clients with depression, (Ongoing sadness; feeling isolated) anxiety (constant worry) stress management, (prioritizing and setting up boundaries for yourself- that work for you), and grief and loss- (especially since the pandemic).
The client population that I would like to focus on would be: Adults 21 and over Some older adults- not too many (64 and older) (No adolescents) Single and blended families
I primarily use the psychodynamic treatment model, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to assist client's in working on more internal self-awareness or for change with themselves. Usually addressing issues within their environment, with family, friends, and with their relationship with others.
