New to Grow
My name is Jenny Karina Rieke, and I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who provides compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy to adults, couples, and families. My work is dedicated to helping clients find clarity, healing, and the right path forward—both individually and within their closest relationships. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders, and I offer experienced support for marital conflict, relationship challenges, and complex family dynamics. With a warm and collaborative approach, I integrate mindfulness-based methods, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and culturally responsive care to meet clients where they are and guide them toward meaningful and lasting change. My goal is to empower individuals, strengthen couples, and help families build healthier communication, deepen connection, and enhance emotional well-being.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, you can expect a calm, welcoming space where you are free to speak openly and at your own pace. I will take time to get to know you—your concerns, your goals, and what you hope to change or improve. Together, we’ll explore what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what support looks like for you right now. I’ll ask questions to better understand your history, your relationships, your emotional patterns, and any challenges you're facing. This helps me begin to build a clear picture of your needs so we can create a personalized plan for your healing and growth. Most importantly, you will not be judged, rushed, or pressured. My goal in the first session is to help you feel heard, supported, and understood, and to make sure you leave feeling hopeful about the path ahead. Therapy is a partnership, and our first meeting is the first step toward clarity, connection, and meaningful change.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What sets me apart as a therapist is my ability to create a warm, safe, and culturally sensitive space where clients feel truly seen and understood. I bring deep compassion, strong clinical skill, and a calm, grounding presence that helps clients open up without fear of judgment. I blend evidence-based methods—such as CBT, mindfulness-based therapy, and relational approaches—with an intuitive understanding of people and their emotional worlds. This allows me to quickly identify patterns, clarify what’s really happening beneath the surface, and guide clients toward powerful insight and lasting change. I am especially skilled at helping clients strengthen their relationships, communicate more effectively, and navigate complex emotional experiences. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, I help clients build the tools they need to heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves and with others. Above all, my greatest strength is the ability to meet clients exactly where they are—and walk with them, step by step, toward a more peaceful, empowered, and fulfilling life.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
f you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward, you are exactly the kind of client I am here to support. You may be struggling with your mood, your relationship, or a major life transition—and you’re looking for someone who truly listens, understands, and helps you create real, lasting change. You’re my ideal client if you want a safe, compassionate space to explore your emotions, understand your patterns, and strengthen the relationships that matter most to you. If you’re ready to grow, willing to be honest with yourself, and open to learning new ways of coping and communicating, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. My goal is to help you find clarity, healing, and a more peaceful, connected life—within yourself and with the people you love.
Couples Counseling
In my clinical practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I have extensive experience working with couples across a wide range of relationship concerns, including communication difficulties, trust and attachment wounds, infidelity, emotional disconnection, conflict escalation, and life-transition stressors. My approach is grounded in evidence-based couples-therapy interventions and informed by my broader expertise in mindfulness, psychodynamic theory, and positive psychology. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples identify underlying attachment needs, reduce reactive conflict cycles, and foster secure emotional bonding. Gottman-informed interventions to improve communication skills, rebuild trust, and strengthen friendship and shared meaning. Cognitive-Behavioral approaches to help partners recognize patterns of negative thinking, unmet expectations, or assumptions that drive conflict. Mindfulness-based work to help each individual regulate emotions, increase compassion, and respond with awareness rather than reactivity. Psychodynamic insight when relational patterns reflect unresolved past experiences, attachment histories, or unconscious expectations carried from family-of-origin relationships. I have worked with diverse couples—married, unmarried, LGBTQIA+, long-term relationships, intercultural couples, and couples navigating major life changes. My experience includes both short-term, solution-focused work and long-term, deeper relationship healing.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I have extensive experience integrating mindfulness-based therapies into my clinical practice, both with individuals and couples. My approach is grounded in the belief that present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, and self-compassion are foundational to psychological healing and long-term well-being. Over the years, I have incorporated mindfulness into treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, life transitions, and relational stress. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to interrupt negative thought patterns, increase emotional regulation, and reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) principles to help clients manage stress, cultivate body awareness, and develop nonjudgmental acceptance. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in aligning actions with personal values while practicing acceptance of internal experiences. Mindful self-compassion approaches to reduce shame, perfectionism, and harsh self-criticism. Somatic and breath-based techniques to ground clients and support nervous system regulation. Through this integrative lens, mindfulness becomes not only a technique but a therapeutic stance of presence, curiosity, and compassion.
Family Therapy
I have extensive experience providing family therapy to address relational conflict, communication difficulties, intergenerational dynamics, and emotional or behavioral concerns within the family system. My approach is grounded in the understanding that individual well-being is deeply influenced by family patterns, roles, and communication styles. I work with families of diverse cultural backgrounds and with varying structures—blended families, multigenerational households, single-parent families, and families navigating major life transitions. My family therapy work integrates several evidence-based models, including: Structural Family Therapy (Minuchin) to identify family hierarchy, boundaries, and interactional patterns that may be contributing to dysfunction. Bowen Family Systems Theory to explore anxiety transmission, differentiation, emotional cutoffs, and generational patterns. Narrative Therapy to help families re-author unhelpful stories and develop more adaptive, shared narratives. Psychoeducation and CBT-based tools to address emotional regulation, skill-building, and conflict resolution. Mindfulness-based strategies to reduce reactivity and promote presence, empathy, and emotional awareness within the family system. I have worked with families facing a wide range of challenges, including adolescent behavioral issues, communication breakdowns, mental health concerns, grief and loss, acculturation differences, trauma, and chronic conflict.
Forensic Psychology
I have extensive experience conducting forensic clinical evaluations, particularly immigration-related psychological assessments. My work in this area combines clinical expertise, cultural sensitivity, and a strong understanding of legal standards. I provide comprehensive evaluations for cases involving asylum, VAWA petitions, U-visas, T-visas, hardship waivers, and other immigration relief categories. Over the years, I have collaborated closely with immigration attorneys to ensure that my assessments meet evidentiary requirements and accurately represent each client’s psychological experience within the appropriate legal framework. My forensic and immigration evaluation work integrates: Trauma-informed care for individuals who have experienced persecution, domestic violence, trafficking, abuse, or political instability. Culturally responsive interviewing for clients from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socio-political backgrounds. Evidence-based psychological assessment tools to evaluate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and functional impairment. Forensic interviewing skills to elicit accurate, detailed narratives in a safe, respectful, and structured manner. I have provided evaluations for adults, adolescents, and families, often in high-stakes contexts where mental health documentation plays a critical role in determining immigration outcomes.
