New to Grow
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with ten years of experience in individual and group counseling in settings ranging from inpatient rehab to outpatient group and individual therapy. I love what I do and consider it a privilege to work with people who are trying to be their best selves. My counseling style is rooted in compassion, authenticity, directness, and humor.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will be all about exploring what brought you to therapy, what your expectations/goals are, and any questions or concerns you might have. We will also discuss our shared expectations of each other as we embark on this journey together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I utilize an integrated and individualized approach, meeting and validating clients where they are while empowering their autonomy and growth. I prioritize creating an affirming space for LGBTQ+ identities. I am comfortable working with a diverse array of relational orientations and experiences such as aromanticism and polyamory. I have a background in yoga and mindfulness, and bring this experience into my counseling where appropriate.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I have spent most of my career working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. We might be a good fit if you are in recovery and ready to delve into deeper issues to improve your overall wellbeing, if you would like to develop healthier and more effective coping skills in recovery, or if you would like to simply explore your (perhaps unhealthy) relationship with substances. I am also equally comfortable working with clients who are exploring issues of identity, working towards personal growth, dealing with chronic conditions, and navigating major life transitions.
Strength-Based
I assist clients in recognizing and validating their already existing strengths as well as developing new strengths to cope with life stressors and build self-esteem.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I utilize solution focused brief therapy techniques to help clients identify and build on their existing resources and solutions to generate practical steps toward desired goals. I aim to empower the client to focus on what's working and to generate effective change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
My person-centered approach to therapy prioritizes each client's unique needs and perspective. Person-centered therapy emphasizes respect, empathy, and collaboration, and encourages clients to take an active role in their therapy. We work together to find solutions that move you towards reaching your full potential.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Utilizing CBT and DBT techniques we will work together to find the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and learn to identify and challenge negative self-talk and underlying core beliefs that no longer serve you.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I utilize my background in yoga and DBT to help you learn to cultivate present-moment awareness and observe your thoughts non-judgmentally. We will work to change your relationship with your thoughts and emotions by recognizing and disengaging from negative thought patterns to create healthier responses to stress and difficult emotions.
