LICSW, 14 years of experience
New to Grow
Greetings! My name is Calvin Thomas. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with 14 years of social work experience that includes behavioral health therapy, clinical social work, case management, home health services, hospice care, grief support, school-based counseling and crisis intervention for various ages and cultural groups. My focus is to provide a person-centered, strength-based, trauma-informed care approach to connect with individuals on their journey of life.
So, the first session is all about you being comfortable. I want to answer your questions, learn about you and, hopefully, remove the pressure that can come with a first session. My only expectation is that you will show up. We will make progress from there. I look forward to your phone call, and I will see you soon.
During our time together, I will use a mix of therapeutic approaches to meet your current needs. I hope to provide a safe space to understand your emotions, work through your challenges and celebrate your successes.
When someone starts therapy, they’re usually looking to make a change—maybe to feel less anxious, connect better with a loved one, or shift something in their life. Whatever you're aiming for, I’m here to support you, listen to you, and walk with you on this path. Challenges will come up, but they’re chances to learn and keep moving forward. Together, we’ll make a clear, doable plan to help you reach your goals.
I enjoy using this method because it teaches clients how to challenge their unhealthy thoughts and beliefs. Also, CBT gives clients a structured approach to tackle their issues. In addition, this method works well with other treatment methods.
DBT is beneficial for clients because it teaches individuals how to manage their emotions and behaviors. DBT can provide quick and easy to learn coping skills to handle difficult emotions. Also, DBT will coach people how to accept the reality of their situations while making steps to change their circumstances for the better.
Trauma Informed Care, or TIC, tends to provide a safe environment for clients to be vulnerable and transparent. TIC attempts to educate people about the power that is within them by reminding clients that they have choice and voice. Lastly, TIC is a collaborative approach that encourages partnership between the provider and client.
Mindfulness strengthens our ability to live in the moment and reduce distractions. Also, a person can reduce their stress levels so they can enjoy more of life. Plus, learning to slow down might be just what you need in this fast paced society.
Motivational interviewing can assist individuals with answering the "why" they are doing something. This method may lead to quicker behavioral changes and improved self-confidence. Also, motivational interviewing provides evidence of people achieving long-term success.
