My name is Dr. Michelle Barrett. I am a Licensed Psychologist with nearly 15 years of experience. My specialty is providing compassionate and non-judgmental support to couples, families, children, adolescents, and young adults facing moderate to severe symptoms. My approach is centered on fostering a safe environment for all clients where they can explore their challenges and work towards meaningful solutions.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First sessions are intake sessions, where I talk with each member of the family or both of the couple or the individual to find out who you are how you got to be who you are and what specifically you’d like to work on and I come up with a plan as the best way to work on that with you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a thoughtful, non-judgmental Psychologist. I do a very good job at making everyone in the session feel heard whether it is a family of six or a couple of two. I am able to help you navigate what your issue is and the best way to move forward, problem solve, or handle the smallest or biggest of issues.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with couples who are trying to navigate problems in their relationship. I also love to work with families who are struggling with individual members of the family or with communication amongst all family members. I also work very well with patients who other clinicians have deemed “difficult“ or who present with severe symptoms. I am also an addiction therapist and work with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with a family member, or who themselves has an addiction disorder.

My treatment methods

Couples Counseling

Couples Counseling is sometimes the only way couples can "hear" each other. I have been working with couples with issues in communication, loss, anger, infidelity, LGBT+, and fertility for well over a decade.

Structural Family Therapy

I utilize Structural Family therapy when working with families. This therapy type analyzes your family unit and interactions and helps you improve those interaction and improve your communication and family functioning.

Integrative

No one type of treatment works for every individual. Using the integrative approach to therapy, first we identify your needs and your history; then we talk about what communication style and learning style work for you. From there, I utilize a combined approach to therapies or the therapy that I feel is best suited for your individual needs.
