Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Psy.D.) in Massachusetts. I received my doctorate from William James College in 1993 and have been practicing for over 30 years. I help adults of all ages who are struggling with crises and/or with various iife-transitions (losses, career changes, phase-of-life concerns, etc.) as they strive to find comfort, new meaning and purpose in their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will start with brief introductions, then begin to discuss the specific challenges you are facing and hoping to address. This opening approach is intended to help you feel comfortable and at ease, and also, to allow me to begin generating a thoughtful plan for how we can work together in future sessions to enable you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

After many years of experience in this field, I have come to believe that empathy is the most essential attribute of effective psychotherapy. With a warm and gentle approach, I work to create a trusting, therapeutic alliance in which we can not only work openly together, but also, in which I can best-understand and support your personal growth and development.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with individuals who are eager to name and explore concerns about their own identities (questions about self-esteem, clarifications of core values & beliefs, dilemmas about unforeseen developmental changes, setting goals and aspirations regarding personal and/or professional growth and development, improving vital relationships, etc.) and then assisting these individuals as they work to resolve these concerns and enhance the overall quality of their lives.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

Over time, I have observed that conditions and events that occur early in life tend to have lasting effects until later in life. As a psychodynamically-oriented therapist, I work to help clients to identify, review and understand how aspects of their earlier lives (relationships, events, crises, etc.) may have affected their current life-situations. With enhanced self-awareness, clients can develop more informed and intentional ways of functioning to improve the quality of their lives.

Existential

Times of significant crisis (such as a major illness, the death of a loved one, a relationship breakdown, a major life transition - like retirement, or even reaching a milestone age) often prompts people to reflect on the meaning and/or purpose of their lives. These "existential questions" often lead to introspection about clarifying values and naming priorities about what truly matters. As an existentially-oriented therapist, I help clients to identify these critical concerns so to enable them to make choices that are "in sync" with their underlying values and to live more fully in accordance with those values, thereby addressing the anxiety that often arises in not doing so.
