Hello, I’m Dr. Leslie Capehart, an LMHC with over 25 years of experience across clinical settings, private practice, and academia. At some point, most people find themselves feeling stuck—whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or just a sense that something isn’t working but you can’t quite put your finger on it. It can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and at times like you’re repeating the same patterns without understanding why. That’s where I come in. My approach is straightforward, collaborative, and focused on helping you actually move forward. I’ll support you, but I’ll also challenge you to look more closely at the patterns, assumptions, and blind spots that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we’ll identify what’s no longer working, shift the thinking patterns behind it, and build practical tools you can use in your day-to-day life. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and self-esteem, with a focus on helping you gain clarity, make meaningful changes, and stop repeating what isn’t working. ***Please note that I don't specialize in working with addiction issues, and if that is something you are actively struggling with, I encourage you to look for a provider who specializes in working in addictions. It's important you find the best person for you.
The first session is focused on getting a clear understanding of you and what’s bringing you in. We’ll talk through your background, current situation, and what feels stuck or not working. I’ll also ask about what you’re hoping will change, along with any concerns or hesitations you may have about the process. I’ll give you a sense of how I work and what you can expect from me. There’s plenty of space for questions, and we’ll cover the practical details—confidentiality, session structure, and frequency—so you know what the process will look like moving forward. The counseling relationship matters. This is a collaborative process, and you’ll be an active participant in the work. Therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy or overwhelming—when it’s working well, it can feel clarifying, engaging, and even energizing as you start to understand yourself differently and make meaningful changes. Before Your First Session Please complete the Grow intake forms and assessments in advance. You’ll also receive a consent form that must be reviewed and signed prior to our first appointment. I’m not able to meet until all required forms are completed. Important Policies Remote therapy may not be appropriate if you are experiencing acute suicidal thoughts or require a higher level of care. In those cases, I will help refer you to an in-person provider better suited to support you. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged at the full session rate. Please plan to arrive on time—sessions may need to be rescheduled if you are more than 15 minutes late, and a no show fee will apply.
My strength as a counselor lies in my genuine interest in understanding your unique experience—how different parts of your life connect, and the patterns that often operate just outside of awareness. I’m skilled at helping you make sense of those patterns in a way that feels clear and actionable, not abstract. I’ll gently challenge your perspective when needed, offer alternative ways of seeing things, and help you uncover blind spots that may be keeping you stuck. The goal isn’t just insight, but helping you use that awareness to make meaningful, lasting changes.
I love working with college students and adults of all ages, but I tend to connect best with people who are naturally curious about themselves and want to understand why they think, feel, and react the way they do. Therapy with me is collaborative and active—we’ll look at patterns, question assumptions, and make practical changes that actually translate into your day-to-day life. I’ll ask you to be engaged in the process, not just show up. I bring a straightforward style, a bit of dry humor, and a focus on helping you get unstuck in ways that last.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our core beliefs shape how we interpret any particular event and, subsequently, the emotions that follow. We repeat patterns that keep us stuck because we continue to interpret events in ways that reinforce our core and, often faulty, beliefs. Using techniques rooted in CBT, we will uncover the beliefs and thoughts that contribute to your feelings.
Eclectic
While I predominantly use the framework of CBT, I incorporate eclectic therapy, meaning many different modalities, into a session.

She is great! She takes the history and related it to current events, looking for patterns and recognizing behaviors and emotions.
