Hi my name is Hilary Matthews and I am a therapist specializing in mood disorders, substance use treatment and trauma. People often report fears and sadness as life changes affect them. I beleive that change is something to embrace and I will show you how. In my client centered practice I use Cognitive behavior, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care to assist clients with their challenges.
During our first session I will introduce myself and discuss the Intake/Assessment process. We begin to explore specific challenges for coming for therapy. We will discuss treatment goals and how I can best assist you with meeting these goals
Building trust and rapport is most important in therapy. I am able to relate to my clients based upon my own experiences with mood disorders, trauma, and addiction.
I love working with young adults, adults and older adults assisting with challenges they are having due to life transitions. My clients are those who realize they are not happy and want to do something about it.

Cognitive behavior therapy is a practical and easy to use mode of therapy. We begin by discussing values as to what a client wants in life and barriers to achieving these. Oftentimes people have unhelpful thoughts and erroneous beliefs which result in unwanted behaviors. CBT offers ways to reframe the thoughts and beliefs which create new and more positive behaviors.
Oftentimes I find that clients have experienced types of trauma in their life which can include abuses/neglect in childhood this carries on to a persons life with regards to trust and attachment. I use trauma informed care to assist clients with learning how to change thoughts, increase self regulation and live a less restrictive life
As a certified substance use therapist I work with client using motivation interviewing, CBT, trauma focused therapy, and mindfulness to help clients maintain sobriety.
