Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Enhanced), specifically designed for treating eating disorders, has proven highly effective. It can be used to treat all eating disorders including Binge Eating Disorder and CBT-AR for ARFID. Through targeted interventions, clients are guided in challenging maladaptive thoughts and behaviors related to food and body image. Providing personalized education and skill-building techniques CBT-E empowers clients to regularize their eating patterns and address body image challenges. Alongside CBT for eating disorders, exposure therapy, a key part of CBT, is highly effective for treating phobias and anxiety. It involves gradually facing feared situations in a controlled way, helping to reduce anxiety over time. By addressing the negative thoughts that fuel fear, CBT helps individuals build healthier coping strategies and gain more confidence in managing their anxiety. Whether it's for social anxiety, specific phobias, or general anxiety, exposure therapy in CBT provides powerful tools for lasting change.
Motivational Interviewing
I often combine Motivational Interviewing (MI) with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to effectively treat addiction. MI helps individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about their substance use, enhancing their motivation to change by focusing on their personal values and goals. Once motivation is built, CBT comes into play to help clients identify and challenge the negative thought patterns and behaviors that fuel their addiction. By addressing both the emotional and cognitive aspects of addiction, this combined approach empowers clients to develop healthier coping strategies, manage cravings, and break free from the cycle of substance use.
Supportive
Supportive therapy is used to offer a compassionate and practical approach to help clients manage life’s challenges, including significant life transitions. This therapy focuses on providing emotional support and validation, helping clients build coping skills, strengthen resilience, and improve their day-to-day functioning. Rather than delving into past trauma or unconscious processes, supportive therapy is grounded in the present, offering guidance and strategies to navigate life transitions.
