New to Grow
My name is Dr. Ihuoma Ohamadike, a social worker and behavioral health professional dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and discover their capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change. I believe that every person carries unique strengths, even during difficult seasons, and that the right support can empower individuals to move forward with confidence and purpose. My approach is compassionate, culturally responsive, and client-centered, creating a safe and respectful space where individuals feel heard and valued. I work collaboratively with clients to explore their experiences, identify barriers, and build practical strategies that promote emotional well-being and resilience. My goal is to help clients gain insight, strengthen their sense of self, and move toward healthier, more fulfilling lives.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a comfortable and supportive therapeutic relationship. During this time, I will invite you to share what brings you to therapy, the challenges you may be experiencing, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with—there is no pressure to have everything figured out. I may ask questions about your background, current concerns, and personal goals to better understand your experiences. Together, we will begin identifying areas of focus and discuss how therapy can support your journey toward healing, growth, and meaningful change.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out about my therapeutic approach is my commitment to meeting clients where they are while supporting them in moving toward meaningful change. I take a holistic and client-centered approach that recognizes the biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual factors that shape each person’s experiences. I integrate evidence-based methods such as Motivational Interviewing, culturally responsive therapy, and insight-oriented approaches to help clients better understand themselves and the patterns that influence their lives. I strive to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment where clients feel heard and valued. My goal is not only to help clients address immediate concerns but also to equip them with the insight, confidence, and practical tools needed to sustain long-term emotional well-being and personal growth.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to work with individuals who are navigating behavioral health challenges, life transitions, and periods of uncertainty or personal growth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or conflicted about changes they would like to make in their lives. I work particularly well with individuals who are open to self-reflection and willing to explore the underlying patterns that may be influencing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we create a supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel heard and respected. Through this process, clients gain deeper insight, strengthen their motivation for change, and develop practical strategies that promote resilience, emotional well-being, and a greater sense of purpose in their lives.
Motivational Interviewing
It is common for individuals to feel uncertain or “on the fence” when considering changes in their lives. Using a Motivational Interviewing (MI) approach, I help clients navigate ambivalence related to behavioral health challenges. I practice reflective listening to ensure a shared understanding of clients’ concerns and use open-ended questions to create space for clients to freely explore their thoughts and perspectives. I also incorporate affirmations to recognize clients’ strengths and encourage positive mindset shifts. Through these techniques, I facilitate change talk, reinforce self-efficacy, and support clients in identifying their intrinsic motivations for meaningful and sustainable change.
Christian Counseling
I incorporate Christian counseling approaches for clients who desire faith-integrated support. This approach helps clients explore their spiritual beliefs, biblical principles. While I use evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address psychosocial challenges, I strongly encourage incorporating prayer as part of my clients’ coping strategies.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I recognize that individuals’ worldview perspectives are often deeply influenced by their cultural values and lived experiences. As such, I incorporate culturally sensitive and culturally responsive therapeutic approaches to ensure that interventions align with clients’ cultural identities, traditions, and social contexts. My approach includes acknowledging cultural strengths, addressing systemic barriers, and adapting communication and treatment strategies to meet each client’s unique needs.
