I’m Becks, a Licensed Professional Counselor & NASM Certified Personal Trainer who specializes in behavior change & nutrition coaching. You might also call me a guiding light toward overall wellness or a catalyst for growth & healing. My great passion as a Health & Wellness Professional is to help you build a healthier relationship with food & your body, cultivate emotional agility to freely express yourself, & be able to communicate your needs/wants to others more effectively. While I’d love to help you improve your mental health through movement & balanced nutrition, I also understand that everyone’s starting point in therapy can look very different. It would be my pleasure in meeting you where you are in your journey to help build your toolbox of skills so that you can lead the life you deserve to live.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then discuss specific challenges that are bringing you to therapy. This will help us create goals in session to work through in follow up sessions. In our sessions moving forward, we'll explore your biggest successes/challenges or discuss ways in which you best managed your week.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My biggest strength is the ability to help others improve their body image through balanced eating & movement. Since self-care can look different for any individual, I love helping my clients implement ANY form of movement into their self-care routine. In my own time growing up, I've learned a lot about how our thoughts & emotions can impact the way we lead our lives. I enjoy utilizing CBT to help you recognize when your thoughts might be troublesome & work through ways to redirect those thoughts or relate to them in a different light. Combining this with DBT can also be beneficial in learning how to manage overwhelming emotions. Overall, I love helping my clients develop acceptance of what is, incorporate mindfulness into daily life, & build strength to live a values-based life.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT interventions are used to help individuals manage intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, & improve relationships by teaching skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, & interpersonal effectiveness. These techniques help individuals manage crises, accept reality, & improve their quality of life. I've helped clients create their toolbox of skills to manage & reduce some of the emotional distress. Access to such a toolbox provides you with immediate relief & can reduce feelings of hopelessness. Anyone will be able to learn skills for acceptance of what they can't change (their past, other people) & adaptive change skills for what they can control.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is a behavioral approach designed to help individuals break free from "stuck" thoughts & feelings, to be more accepting of themselves & their experiences, & to live life in a way that matters most to them. I've helped clients recognize how emotions play a role in their life & not feel overwhelmed by them. You'll learn to accept the things within your control while staying true to yourself & your values. Anyone will be able to adapt to changing circumstances & respond effectively to their internal experiences, thoughts & emotions.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The foundation of CBT is the connection between emotions, thoughts, & actions. I'll work with you to identify, challenge, and replace negative thoughts & behaviors with healthier, more realistic alternatives to improve emotional regulation & solve current problems. You'll learn about your cognitive patterns & apply effective skills that challenge those negative thoughts, actions, or beliefs. When you're able to apply these skills to your everyday life & change your thoughts, your behaviors tend to follow.
