Welcome! My name is Kim Nelson. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has worked throughout California providing therapy and support to individuals and families for over a decade! I have extensive experience working with adults, mothers, children, and families and specialize in trauma, anxiety, stress, burnout, caregiver stress, family conflict and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (Postpartum).
Everyone deserves support and it takes a lot of bravery to seek out help. Especially when people are struggling the most. I hold how hard this can be and work to bring understanding and curiosity to the first session with you. What you can expect from our first session together is for me to learn more about you, what brings you to therapy here at this time, and what you are looking to get support with. I will ask questions to better understand you and open up space to allow you to verbalize and process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
I believe that my greatest strengths as a therapist and person are my compassion, understanding, and non judgmental stance to help people during their most challenging times. I meet people where they are at and find the balance between care/validation and helping people take the tangible steps towards their goals (even when that may seem hard or impossible in the moment). I am able to help people see what are things getting in the way of them moving forward towards their goals/preferred self and work with people to address these barriers.
I am passionate about working with Postpartum mothers, parents and caregivers who experience anxiety, overwhelm, stress, and burnout. I also have extensive experience supporting and helping to support, heal and empower children, adolescents, and adults who have endured trauma at any stage of life. I also have a wealth of experience supporting families through difficult dynamics and experiences.
My therapy approach centers around providing supportive therapy to people in their most challenging and difficult times. It is not easy to ask for help and so I provide compassion, validation and sit along side people meeting them where they are at and addressing what they need help with in the moment.
I extensively utilize CBT with adolescents, adults, clients with trauma and Postpartum mothers to address and challenge unhelpful and maladaptive thought patterns.
I have a passion for family therapy and have been a family therapist for over 10 years supporting the entire family unit. Additionally, I have been providing Child Parent Psychotherapy for over 10 years. It is an essential treatment component when working with children to help to achieve successful treatment outcomes.
I utilize grief therapy to help support clients during some of their most painful times in their lives.
I have worked extensively with people who experience trauma in childhood to adulthood. I work compassionately to help clients learn more about their trauma symptoms, response and triggers and help them take back their power.
