Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Wyoming, Utah, and Tennessee. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and have been practicing for 7 years as a therapist after working in the healthcare field at various institutions, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities in different capacities since 2009. In addition to being clean and sober for the past 33 years, I engaged successfully in a business career for the last 40 before deciding to pursue social work full time. I have experience in helping clients reduce their depression, stress, and anxiety, move beyond addiction, understanding and reduce the negative impact of codependency, improve their relationships, create self-esteem, and foster confidence. I attempt to work with clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. My goal is to provide you with the tools and support you need to achieve the changes you wish to see.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Once I hear from the client about their problems and issues, I attempt to orient them to the broader context of outpatient care by explaining the role of the Medical Provider, the Therapist, and Support Services in providing them with what they need to facilitate the progress they seek in addressing their problems. Once I answer any questions they have about those areas, I introduce them to a client centered plan to increase their self-awareness and ability to self-care in ways that are effective and transformative.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over many years of life and recovery I have come to realize the clarity and personal power that one achieves when they turn their attention inward. Then the client can use their own internal experience to guide their search for identity and independence. This can be a transformational path to addressing their problems and finding their future.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, is one of the first psychotherapy methods to be developed and proven to be effective by research (evidenced based practice). It has been used for the past 60 years to help people with a wide variety of behavioral and mental health problems including depression, anxiety, alcoholism, addiction, and trauma. Initially, CBT drew attention to the role our thoughts (cognitions) play in many of these problems. Today, CBT promotes an expanded view of the role of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in our daily lives (Cognitive Triangle). Combined with another foundational psychotherapeutic understanding of human beings called Maslow’s Higher Needs, CBT enhances people’s awareness of their own ‘experience of life’ empowering them to make more healthy choices about who they are, and how they want to engage in relationships and to live their lives. This Provider works to help clients understand and acquire CBT concepts and tools so they can increase their self-awareness and enhance their ability to self-care as they journey down their own unique Life Path. This approach has been successful in helping people reduce their symptoms, achieve significant resolution of their core problems, and provided them with useful skills for changing and maintaining their lives for good into the future.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing, MI, is a counseling method which helps clients identify and resolve any confusion or ambivalence around their problems, options, or choices. MI uses a direct, client-centered approach which acknowledges the client’s motivation as the primary source of guidance for resolving problems. As a Provider, I treat the client with unconditional, positive regard while supporting them to achieve their plans and goals in ways that are consistent with their needs.
