I specialize in grief and loss. Grief and loss can include death, break-ups/ divorce, relationship transitions, illness, pet loss, job loss, loss of home, or experiencing a move. Even positive life changes in life can bring feelings of sadness and loss. Grief can be overwhelming and can accompany a lot of additional feelings some of those can be anxiety, anger, sadness, resentment, and relief. I help clients by helping validate and explore these emotions, identifying coping skills and support, and giving them the tools to rebuild their new normal. Other common issues include anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, coping skills, and family conflict.
Clients describe me as having a warm and realistic approach that is down-to-earth but professional and relatable. Together we will explore feelings, find strengths and coping strategies, and set goals to find and embrace a new normal.
As a former medical social worker with hospice, I was afforded the opportunity to work with people during one of life's most vulnerable and difficult times. It is here where I learned how to help empower clients and help them utilize coping skills. I have done further training on how to apply my knowledge as a grief companion to apply to counseling other types of losses. I have also done further training on the impact of emotionally immature loved ones, toxic relationships, and anxiety-related issues.
I utilize motivational interviewing, psychoeducation and cognitive behavior therapy to address the thoughts at the root of anxiety and depression.
