LCSW, 10 years of experience
I specialize in Trauma. I'm down to earth and real, with a side of wit and compassion. I have a background in crisis; I have worked in Psychiatric Hospitals, Medical Hospitals, Emergency Departments and Trauma Centers. As a former 2nd responder, my practice has developed into an integrative approach to therapy with the body's natural biological approach at the heart. Primarily, my approach is to get to the root of the issue, but more importantly, how to heal.
Our first session is what is known as a biopsychosocial; personal and family history related to mental health issues, current issues, major medical issues and goals for treatment. Also, to determine if it would be a good working relationship. I may not be for everyone, and that's ok. It is more important that you feel comfortable with your therapist. It is like finding a Primary Care Doctor, you may have to see a few before you find the right one.
Due to my background and experience, much of my work is focused on the body's neurophysiological response. I focus on mind/body connection; how it affects behavior, decisions, mental health, but more importantly, how to heal.
The population I work with is not limited. I specialize in Trauma. I work with many first, second responders, healthcare workers and their families. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I work with those that are affected by current or past trauma. When I speak of trauma, I refer to activation of the sympathetic nervous system, one does not have to have a "PTSD" event for this to happen.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is typically integrated with other therapeutic approaches tailored to the client’s needs. It’s especially effective for PTSD but can also be used for anxiety, phobias, and other emotional difficulties.
I bring an integrated approach to mental health. The body’s neurophysiological response is at the heart of my practice. I work with adults and couples to understand the connection between stress and trauma, the body’s autonomic nervous system and how it affects behavior. More importantly, how to heal. I often say, "your body will tell us everything we need to know, we just need to learn how to listen to it."

I assess my clients where they are. At time, this means focusing on current issues and finding solutions.
