Hello, I am Victoria, a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience working in the mental health field. I received my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of North Texas. I am trained in EMDR, CBT and DBT counseling techniques. I work to create a collaborative relationship with my clients, allowing a safe space for exploration and change.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session I will educate you on the therapy process, gather your history, listen to your counseling goals, introduce you to helpful resources and agree on a plan to start our counseling journey together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My greatest strength is my empathetic nature. I'm very good at listening and understanding a person's intentions. When I understand you as a person, I can best help you find tools and skills to achieve your personal goals.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I take a trauma-informed approach working with adults and older adults. I have experience working with issues ranging from anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal thinking, work-life satisfaction, and family relationships.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR, has been proven to be highly effective in helping those struggling from traumatic events and distressing memories. This method involves bilateral stimulation, (visual, auditory or tactile) which occur in a rhythmic left-right pattern, while you process traumatic memories. Our goal will be to use EMDR to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Generally, it's common to feel lighter and less weighed down after going through EMDR. The problem that brought you to therapy often feels less significant, and old triggers won't have their usual effect. You'll likely find that you are no longer scared or anxious about things that once bothered you.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a therapy that focuses on thoughts (cognitions) and behaviors. It's based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can influence a person's quality of life, and that psychological problems can be caused by unhelpful ways of thinking and learned behaviors. Using this therapy method we can explore your thoughts and behaviors, and how they are barriers to satisfaction in your life. Then we'll work together to help you learn better ways of coping, replacement thoughts & behaviors, and problem solving strategies that move you forward toward your goals and life satisfaction.
Strength-Based
Strengths-based therapy is a counseling approach we can use to identify your current strengths and help you gain the confidence and motivation you need to achieve your goals.
Reality Therapy
Unlike more conventional forms of therapy, reality therapy specifically focuses on an individual's current state and places less importance on past experiences or the presence of mental health conditions. In sessions Reality therapy techniques will emphasizes the impact of your choices on your actions, which can lead to a personal sense of accountability and empowerment over your behaviors.
