My name is Teonna and I have over twenty-five years of experience in the counseling field. I have worked with all ages throughout my career. I am very knowledgeable about depression, anxiety, big changes in life, trauma, and grief & loss. I have a welcoming personality and am here to listen, partner, and help clients with the challenges they are facing.
We will get to know each other, I like to learn about the person as a whole and answer any questions they may have. We will discuss what they want to work on and their goals. Clients can expect a warm welcome and active listening. We spend the time connecting and deciding if our professional relationship will be a good fit for both of us. You can expect someone who will be honest and upfront with you and by the end of the session you should feel hopeful and have an idea of a plan of the work we will do together.
My professional and life experience tend to make people feel both comfortable and confident with discussing their lives and problems. Clients always find comfort in talking to me, even about the hardest topics. I'm also goal oriented to help clients move forward in their healing. Clients have also told me how hopeful and thankful they are that we have established goals that we work towards each session rather than just discussing "how was your week". People also enjoy my sense of humor and down-to-earth personality. I am a very real person with great training and knowledge. You may enjoy meeting my pets as they sometimes like to join the session lol.
I work best with clients who are ready to make changes and feel better. I see the therapeutic relationship as a partnership to help the client work through their challenges. I love working with older children, teens, and adults to live their best lives. I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, life changes, grief & loss, sexual issues, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, divorce/separation and other concerns.
I use CBT to help clients learn how to manage their moods, behavior, and the root of their beliefs.
I use TF-CBT to help process trauma symptoms by learning common trauma responses, reframing beliefs about the trauma to decrease shame and guilt, as well as teaching coping skills to use when symptoms are difficult.
