New to Grow
Welcome! I'm Miki McPherson. Let's first take a moment to acknowledge that you've taken the first step towards feeling better and taking charge of your mental health because, I know firsthand, that starting or returning to therapy can be empowering, confusing, and scary all at the same time. I am a Licensed Therapist with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology and over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, loss and grief, confidence and esteem issues, parenting challenges, relationship issues, school and career stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention-deficit disorder (ADD) and attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and open-minded. I like to keep things real while helping you find relief from the symptoms you’re struggling with and discover practical ways to feel better and grow. Building a strong, trusting connection is at the heart of my work. When you feel safe, understood, and supported, that’s when real change starts to happen. My practice is collaborative and strength-based, working together to identify and draw on your inherent strengths, skills, and resources to facilitate growth and promote resilience in overcoming challenges to improve overall functioning and quality of life.
I know firsthand that a first therapy session can be nerve-wracking, more for some than others, so I want to let you know now that you can relax some because I believe that therapy should feel like a supportive conversation that comfortably flows back and forth. That's the vibe you can expect with me as we: * Review your intake forms, screenings, and comprehensive assessment. * Talk about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get out of our work together. * Explore and identify your primary area of need and treatment focus. * Create treatment goals that align with your area of need and desired change(s).
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to quickly build a genuine, trusting connection with my clients, something that comes naturally from just being myself and encouraging you to do the same. I believe therapy works best when you can show up as your authentic self, without fear of judgment. I also like to bring a little laughter into our sessions whenever possible. I believe it’s an important part of healing and helps make the process feel more relaxed and real. Many of my clients have shared that the casual, comfortable vibe in our sessions makes it easier for them to open up and be fully transparent on their journey.
If anxiety makes every day feel like an uphill battle, depression is stealing your energy and interest, stress is running your life, you’re feeling stuck because of past trauma, and significant relationships are suffering as a result, know that you are not alone and that there’s a path forward to helping you feel more in control and reclaiming your life, purpose, and meaningful relationships. I will help you understand the lingering effects of your experiences, explore what’s holding you back, find your inner strengths, and discover new strategies to better manage stress, cope with situations, re-establish meaning in significant relationships, and resolve your problems in a judgment-free, supportive, and safe space where you can be yourself. If you're ready to share, do the work, and commit the time to move from just "surviving" to "thriving", schedule your appointment with me now. Therapy can make a difference!
Is an evidence-based method and one of the most effective and practical approaches for treating anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, and ADHD. It's also highly beneficial for managing insomnia, chronic pain, and improving overall brain functioning. Clients learn to identify and challenge recurring negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their symptoms and keep them feeling stuck; learn how thoughts, emotions, and actions influence one another; and learn strategies to replace unhelpful thinking with more balanced perspectives to experience relief from symptoms, feel more in control, and move towards a calmer, more fulfilling daily living.
Focuses on gaining self-awareness, insight, and resolving internal conflict stemming from childhood experiences and trauma for clients struggling with social anxiety, depression, or relational difficulties. Clients learn how behavior patterns like avoiding closeness, fearing rejection, or striving for perfection often reflect deeper unconscious conflicts shaped by early experiences. Through this process, clients learn to resolve inner conflict, ease emotional distress, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
Is a humanistic approach that focuses on fostering personal growth, empowerment, and self-actualization via a greater self-understanding, self-acceptance, and independence. It is integrated with other evidence-based methods to create a “safe space” where clients feel heard, valued, and capable through their healing journey.
