About me

I'm Elizabeth Pillsbury, LCSW, and I've spent 25+ years helping people find their way through anxiety, depression, trauma, and sleepless nights. I see you—the exhaustion, the effort you're making, the strength and courage it takes to reach out. I understand what it's like when you're doing everything "right" but still struggling. Using proven techniques including EMDR, CBT, and CBT-I, I help professionals and adults in Virginia and DC find real relief and reconnect with themselves. Find clarity. Reclaim control. Move forward.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is a conversation—nothing more, nothing less. There's no pressure to have everything figured out or to explain yourself perfectly. You can take your time. We'll talk about what brought you here. What's been weighing on you? What does a hard day look like? What have you already tried? I'll listen carefully, without judgment, because I know how much courage it takes to be in that chair. I'll also ask what you're hoping for—not just symptom relief, but what life might feel like when things are better. Better sleep? Less worry? Feeling like yourself again? That becomes our roadmap. I'll explain how I work—whether EMDR for trauma, CBT for anxiety or depression, or CBT-I for insomnia—and what you can realistically expect. Most people start feeling some relief within the first few sessions, with meaningful change typically happening in 8-16 sessions. You can ask anything: about confidentiality, how therapy actually works, concerns about your career or clearances, or whether we're the right fit. By the end, you'll have clarity and, I hope, a sense of relief that help is here.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What I bring to our work together is both expertise and understanding—the clinical skills to help you heal, and the human connection to make you feel truly seen. I've spent 25+ years specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, and insomnia. I'm EMDR Level II Certified, which means advanced training in helping your brain process what feels stuck. I'm trained in CBT-I for insomnia—the approach that actually works long-term, better than medication. As a former wellness program director for both physicians and legal professionals and graduate medical education faculty, I understand the systemic pressures that wear people down, especially in high-stakes professions. But beyond the credentials, here's what really matters: I see you as a whole person, not a diagnosis. I understand what it's like to be high-functioning and still struggling, to look fine on the outside while screaming, crying, or shutting down on the inside. I know the particular loneliness of carrying stress no one else can see. I won't rush you, judge you, or make you feel broken. We'll work at your pace, with proven methods that create real change. You'll feel heard, supported, and genuinely helped.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

You're exhausted. Maybe it's the anxiety that follows you everywhere, the depression that's dulled everything you used to love, the trauma you can't stop reliving, or the sleepless nights that leave you running on empty. You've been trying so hard to manage it on your own, and you're tired of pretending you're fine. I know how exhausting it is to keep searching for something that works. You might be a physician carrying the weight of life-and-death decisions, an attorney absorbing your clients' trauma, a military member navigating invisible wounds, or an executive who's supposed to have it all together. Or maybe you're simply a person dealing with grief, life transitions, or challenges that feel too heavy to carry alone. I see you. I see the effort you're making just to get through each day. I see the courage it takes to acknowledge you need support. You want more than just coping—you want to actually feel better. You need someone who understands the unique pressures you face, who won't judge the ways you've been surviving, and who has the expertise to guide you toward real, lasting relief. You deserve that. And I'm here to help you find it.
