Hi! I'm Jess. Reaching out for help isn't always easy. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, frustrated, or simply tired of not feeling like yourself. Maybe you've been struggling for a while, or maybe you're just starting to realize that something needs to change. Wherever you are in that process, my goal is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and work with you to find a treatment plan that helps you feel better and move forward. I completed my PMHNP program at Eastern Kentucky University in 2022. Since then, I have worked in a mix of outpatient, residential, and inpatient consultation settings, with a focus on general psychiatry and addiction medicine. My practice is focused on helping clients ages 6-65 who are struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other mental health concerns. I work with people who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, frustrated, or simply like they aren't quite themselves anymore. Sometimes you may know exactly what is wrong, and sometimes you may just know that something needs to change. Either way, my goal is to help you better understand what you're experiencing and find a treatment plan that makes sense for you. I am also in the process of completing additional certification in autism assessment and am eager to help meet the growing need for accessible autism assessment and treatment in the near future.
Your initial assessment will be a bit lengthy. We will spend time gathering a thorough history because I believe understanding the bigger picture is essential for making an accurate diagnosis and creating a safe, effective treatment plan. I want to understand more than just your symptoms. I want to learn about what you've been experiencing, how it affects your everyday life, what you've tried in the past, what has helped, and what hasn't. I also want you to have the opportunity to tell me the things you feel are important, even if you're not sure whether they are directly related to your mental health.
I treat my clients as I would want to be treated if I were in a similar situation. I believe people deserve to feel heard and respected when they are asking for help. I allow ample time to discuss the things that are important for safe and appropriate treatment—and sometimes the things that may not necessarily need to be discussed but matter to you anyway. I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients. I don't expect you to have everything figured out when you come to see me. My job is to meet you where you are, help you understand what may be contributing to how you're feeling, and work with you to figure out what steps make sense from there. For me, progress isn't just about whether a medication is working. It's also about whether you're sleeping better, functioning better, handling stress differently, feeling more like yourself, or finding that everyday life is becoming a little easier. I enjoy watching my clients grow and seeing their quality of life improve over time.
My ideal client is someone who is ready for things to change and is willing to be an active part of that process. You don't have to have all the answers, and you certainly don't have to feel completely ready. But I do believe the best results happen when we work together and you are willing to be honest, participate in your treatment, and practice new skills along the way. Medication management is a large part of what I do, but I also incorporate therapeutic conversations and practical coping skills into appointments. My goal is not simply to prescribe a medication and send you on your way. We can talk about what you're experiencing, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work on skills that can help you manage difficult emotions and situations while we see how your treatment is working. I may not be the best fit for someone who is looking only for medication refills without wanting to participate in their care or discuss how things are actually going. I believe treatment works best when we can have an open, honest conversation and work together toward meaningful changes. If you're looking for someone who will take the time to listen, get to know you, and work with you to find a treatment approach that fits your needs, I would be happy to meet you.
CBT is useful for challenging unhealthy thoughts and practicing new ways of thinking and responding to unhealthy thoughts. I often incorporate CBT into medication management appointments.
I utilize motivational interviewing, particularly when working with clients struggling with addiction. We'll explore your reasons for seeking recovery, your readiness for recovery, and what motivation you'll have to sustain recovery.
Psychoeducation is incorporated into every medication management appointment. You will know which medication options are available to you, common side effects for those medications, and when to expect to see benefit from those medications.
