New to Grow
I deeply believe in the human capacity for growth in the face of incredible adversity. Pain is oftentimes inevitable, but suffering is optional. For those brave enough to reach out for support in trying times, I offer a new way to draw upon inner strengths and reframe how you relate to your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My aim is to compassionately work with you to understand your concerns and their impact.
Our first session is different from others in that we will spend more time going through specific symptoms causing distress in the present, gathering history from the past, exploring the impact of current concerns on overall functioning, and collaboratively setting treatment goals for our next steps together.
I have unwavering faith in the resilience of the human spirit to overcome the most cumbersome challenges and darkest moments in life. I have witnessed the ability of clients to move through their own fears and concerns toward their goals through the transformative process of utilizing the therapeutic relationship and skills learned in therapy to create lasting change.
At your pace, we can explore problematic obstacles, while gently introducing more adaptive, flexible ways of engaging with life and moving towards your goals. I have years of experience working with couples, suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, psychiatric hospitalization, personality disorders, older adults, men's issues, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and serious mental illness.
I adopt an integrative, humanistic approach, drawing upon cognitive, behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based therapies, such as third-wave behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I utilize principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when indicated for the treatment of concerns such as depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders.
I draw upon principles and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when indicated for the treatment of concerns related to developing adequate coping skills for managing intense emotions, increasing interpersonal effectiveness, building mindfulness skills, regulating emotions, as well as coping more effectively with suicidal thoughts and urges to engage in self-harm.
