Hello, friends. Are you emotionally exhausted due to ongoing conflicts in life? Moreover, are you utterly overwhelmed while trying to secure a meaningful connection with family or loved ones? If so, you are not alone. Several children maintain the notion that "parents just don't understand." Conversely, many parents believe their children are mentally and emotionally disconnected from family. If this sounds like your case. . .I am extending my "virtual" hand. Let us work together to overcome issues that have long stopped you and your family from being happy, healthy, and whole. My name is Dr. Austin, LCSW, and I assist children and families in their efforts to create a communal living environment where families thrive, not merely survive. I believe in establishing a safe, judgment-free therapeutic setting where all are treated with unconditional positive regard.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will encompass general introductions. We will also discuss how we can work collaboratively to achieve a comprehensive state of wellness.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am highly passionate about supporting the individual case and collective cause of the oppressed. As an African-American male growing up in the urban core of a large metropolitan city, I endured demeaning systemic injustices. While past experiences proved psychologically harmful, I have learned to acquire resilience in tough times. Such skills were harnessed through positive connections with others and my unwavering faith in God. Overall, I strive to support the mental health and wellness of clients lacking emotional safety. This includes individuals, children, and families.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

Within my ongoing interactions with children and families, I have utilized a humanistic or strength-based approach to establish emotional balance and mindfulness within clients.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I have extensively analyzed the importance of applying a person-centered approach within the therapeutic environment to promote emotional wellness for all clients (regardless of age, ethnicity, or background). Thus, a person-centered approach establishes an empathic environment that exudes compassion and unconditional positive regard toward all. In essence, I dismantle the therapist/client hierarchy, and we (the therapist and client) work collaboratively to identify practical resolutions to ongoing problems.

Polyvagal Therapy

Throughout my interactions with individuals suffering chronic trauma or adverse childhood experiences, I have utilized concepts associated with the polyvagal theory to establish safety and secure connections.
