I am passionate about guiding you on a transformative journey towards emotional well-being by understanding how you operate and issues you may have developed from your experiences. As well as understanding the people around you and their issues and how they operate. Also by learning how to best care for yourself by setting boundaries enabling you to establish stronger, more connected relationships with the people in your life. My mission is to create a nurturing, safe space where individuals, couples, and families can explore their inner worlds and discover the power to heal, grow, and thrive as individuals and within their relationships.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I have a solid, effective and logical approach to therapy. I spend the first few sessions gathering knowledge about your past family and romantic relationships. I analyze your information thoroughly, and study who you are in order to point out truths in your life and in your behavior that may be hindering your success or distorting your perspective. The goal is to gain more insight into how your childhood or your experiences throughout life are playing out in your adult life, so that you can operate daily on a more conscious level, and able to trust your intuition, instead off just living in a reactive, unconscious state.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My ultimate goal is for you to become a productive, self-differentiated person that is capable of intimacy and closeness in your relationships. We start our lives very dependent and enmeshed to others, and because not all of those primitive needs are met, we go through life either rejecting closeness in some way, or needing it to our own detriment. In either of those extremes, we are likely to more reactive with people in our lives and less aware. My greatest strength is that I work to get to the core of the problems so that every aspect of your life becomes more manageable and joyful instead of anxiety-filled or worse, living traumatized.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I pair best with clients that are ready and willing to do the work. I am always engaged and ready to get down to it. I don't believe clients need to be in therapy for several years. I want my clients to work hard at their own growth and be open to shifting your perspective or changing beliefs about yourself that may have been there since you were in your developmental years of life. Once we do the work and grow, there is no need to be in therapy every week ... it should be used as upkeep, a refresher or when something difficult occurs in your life that you need the extra support to get through and remain healthy and living consciously.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

As a Licensed Therapist, Jennifer R. Millar has based her foundation on a combination of theories including Psychodynamic, Bowenian, and John Bradshaw's work on marriage, inner child wounds, and shame/abandonment wounds originating in childhood. These theories are rooted in empathy, compassion, intuition and truth. Her approach is tailored to each unique client, and she begins by asking questions about your experiences, as these have influence over formed beliefs. This information is used in a genogram that will reveal your particular way in which you view and interact with yourself and others. Jennifer believes in the power of personalized, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to foster healing, resilience, growth and positive change.
