I am Janet Stone-Nielsen, an LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) in northeastern North Carolina. I have 27 years of experience in the field as a clinical social worker and clinical and administrative supervisor. My experience is primarily in domestic violence, sexual assault, crisis intervention, grief, loss, major life transitions, chronic health problems, anxiety and depression. I am passionate about helping people and promoting lasting positive change. I use an eclectic therapy approach dependent upon client needs.
In our first session together I like to start out with introductions and learning about your history, what you need help with and what your goals are for therapy. We do not have to talk about the deepest wounds right away. That takes time. I like to establish safety, trust and collaboration first.
I am a listener and do a thorough assessment to tailor the best treatment plan for you. I prioritize emotional, physical and relational safety.
I am passionate about working with clients that have experienced trauma and helping them to navigate their situation.
I use a range of treatment methods depending on individual client needs. I am a trauma informed therapist and I like to use a combination of psycho education, CBT, motivational interviewing, strength based and feminist models. I am newly trained in EMDR and will consider this for online therapy if appropriate.
