LCSW, 27 years of experience
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) located in northeastern North Carolina. I have 27 years of experience in the field as a clinical social worker and clinical and administrative supervisor. My experience is primarily in domestic violence, sexual assault, trauma, crisis intervention, grief, loss, major life transitions, chronic health problems, anxiety and depression. My clinical work has centered on providing trauma-based therapy to individuals impacted by complex trauma and PTSD. I use a trauma-informed lens in all aspects of care, helping clients stabilize, develop coping strategies and process traumatic experiences at a pace that feels safe. I draw on evidence-based approaches to guide recovery while empowering clients to regain control over their narratives and lives.
In our first session together the focus is on creating safety and connection. I will spend time getting to know you--what brings you to therapy, what you hope for, and any concerns you may have. We will talk about your goals for therapy and what feels most important to you right now. You will also have space to ask questions about me and how I work. Together, we will go at your pace. You do not need to share details of your trauma until you are comfortable. The first session is about building trust, understanding your needs, and making sure you feel supported. By the end, we will begin shaping a plan for how therapy can help you move forward.
My greatest strengths as a trauma-informed therapist are compassion, patience, and the ability to create a safe space where healing can unfold at your own pace. I listen deeply, honor your story without judgement, and work collaboratively to help you feel empowered and supported. I draw from different approaches to meet your needs, always keeping your safety and sense of control at the center of our work together. Together we focus on restoring your sense of safety, choice, and strength, helping you reconnect with your resilience and move toward lasting healing.
As a trauma-informed therapist I am best positioned to help you because I approach care with an understanding of how trauma affects the brain, body and relationships. I understand how trauma can shape how a person thinks, feels and relates to others. I understand symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hypervigilance. I believe healing from trauma requires a foundation of safety. I prioritize creating an environment where clients feel safe, secure, respected, and empowered to move at their own pace.

Janet was amazing in our first visit. I was nervous but she made me feel comfortable and welcomed. She is a great listener but balances well with giving advise. I look forward to working with her going forward. Thank you Janet.
My clinical practice is grounded in an eclectic therapy approach. I integrate elements from various modalities, such as CBT, mindfulness, psychodynamic theory, psycho-education, and person-centered therapy, tailoring interventions to each client's unique needs. This flexibility allows me to provide personalized effective care while honoring client preferences and strengths. I am newly trained in EMDR and will consider this for online therapy if appropriate.
