About me

Hello, I am Aisha Holmes Thorn, MA, LPC-S, NCC, a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master's in School Counseling, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a certified Counselor Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor. In addition to my degree in school counseling, I am also a trained clinical mental health therapist. I have been trained in multiple modalities to address a diverse range of clients.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we will get to know each other and begin building a foundation of trust and understanding. I’ll ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and a bit about your background and experiences. This helps me get a clear picture of what’s been happening and how I can best support you. We’ll also discuss what you hope to achieve through therapy and explore the approaches that might be best suited for you. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable—there’s no pressure to have everything figured out. I’ll explain how sessions typically work, discuss confidentiality, and answer any questions you may have about the process. By the end of our first meeting, I hope you’ll leave with a better sense of what therapy with me entails and some initial clarity about where we can begin.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am easy-going, kind, and compassionate. I want you to feel safe and supported in your therapy journey.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I believe that each person is the expert of their life. I also think that at times we all need an objective person to listen and to help us find our center. I strive to meet each person where they are, with no judgments and no preconceived ideas. I believe that counseling is not about labeling problems; it is about developing coping skills, gaining self-awareness, and self-understanding. Together, we discover ways to uncover your strengths and lead a more fulfilling life.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

When I am working with clients, I often use principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which emphasizes acceptance, mindfulness, and values-based living. I work to help clients NOTICE and make room for difficult emotions instead of getting caught up in them, and identify what truly matters to them. From there, we work on taking small, intentional steps toward what is important to them (their values), even when things feel uncertain or challenging.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I hope to help clients notice the connection between what they think, feel, and do. Together, we look at patterns that may be keeping them stuck and explore new ways of thinking and responding that promote confidence, calm, and growth.
