I’m Daryaan McLeod, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and the owner and Clinical Director of Kweli Counseling LLC in New Orleans. My practice offers individual and couples therapy, providing a warm, affirming space to navigate life’s challenges, strengthen relationships, and grow.

My approach combines compassion with gentle challenge, helping clients recognize their strengths, explore patterns, and take meaningful steps toward the changes they want.

I also supervise emerging counselors and support community mental wellness through groups, workshops, and education.

First session

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your concerns, your experiences, and what you hope will change, with room for you to ask questions and share at your own pace. You don’t need to prepare a perfect explanation or tell your whole story. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, with a clearer sense of how we can work together.

Strengths

I bring warmth, honesty, and curiosity to my sessions, creating space for clients to feel comfortable being themselves. I pay attention to how identity, relationships, and lived experiences shape each person’s story. My approach combines compassion with gentle challenge, helping clients recognize their strengths, explore patterns, and take meaningful steps toward the changes they want.

Ideal clients

My ideal client may be used to showing up for everyone else while struggling to make space for themselves. They might be navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, or questions about identity and self-worth. They don’t need to have everything figured out—just a willingness to explore their experiences, strengthen boundaries, and work toward a life that feels more like their own.

Origin story

I became a therapist because I wanted to create space for people to feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. I’m especially passionate about making mental health care feel accessible and affirming for Black individuals and families. Being able to help people understand themselves, navigate difficult experiences, and build lives that reflect who they are continues to inspire my work.

Ongoing work together

Our work together will focus on what matters most to you, with space to process your experiences, understand patterns, and practice new ways of responding. We’ll revisit your goals and talk openly about what’s helping and where we may need to adjust. Progress might look like setting a boundary with less guilt, responding to stress with more confidence, or feeling more connected to yourself and others. You won’t have to measure growth by having everything figured out—we’ll notice the meaningful shifts along the way.

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients respond to difficult thoughts and feelings with greater openness and less self-judgment. Through mindfulness, reflection, and practical exercises, we explore what matters most to you and how to take meaningful action, even when discomfort is present. The goal is to build flexibility so that fear, stress, or self-doubt have less influence over how you live.
