Hakuna Matata. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor both in Tennessee and next in Texas. Houston Christian University is where I received a Masters of Arts in Psychology over 17 years ago. My favorite clients are contemporaries who are experiencing issues with aging parents and have difficult decisions to make concerning end-of-life care and/or the grieving that often follows those tough choices. Mental fitness includes acceptance of ones choices made during traumatic life phases. Enjoying a life of integrity many times is a choice one must make. I want to help you with that. Hakuna Matata means "don't worry, be happy!" That's a choice.

As your therapist, I can help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we cannot change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. If you are depressed, struggling at times to get out of bed, not finding fun in your everyday life, I can help you live more gratefully and joyfully. This over-connected, technological world can make you anxious, but we'll work together to settle your mind. If you find yourself having a hard time lowering your irritation and controlling your anger, then I'll teach you how to think and not just react. Guilt can weigh you down and keep you trapped, so we will examine together how to forgive yourself. If your relationships are troubling and you find it difficult to talk with others effectively, we can improve your communication skills. Some days can seem a blur of almost constant stress and overwhelm, and I can show you what it's like to relax, be still and find peace.

I am passionate about helping individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, loss/grief and life transitions. Life can certainly be challenging. We tend to use past coping skills and many times, these skills no longer serve their purpose. I am here to assist you with identifying healthy coping skills when you are faced with difficult situations. You might think you don't have time for therapy, or that you should be able to handle this on your own, but if you're overwhelmed and not coping well, you deserve the time to take this step. Let's work together towards a life of balance and reflection, where you feel empowered and at ease.

I received my masters degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and my law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. I started Pink Rose Therapy to help women reach their full potential. I approach individual therapy as a partnership, where you and I both work on your treatment plan goals and checking in with how effective our work together is going. After many years of exploring a variety of jobs I finally began to focus on assisting others in this adventure called "life ." As an adult. I began serving through Christian ministry and then realized I was even more fulfilled in working more specifically in the wider field of mental health. After getting both master's and a doctoral degree in mental health, I worked in clinical settings, counseling centers, crisis centers, my own private practice , and university settings. While managing my own counseling center, I also served several years teaching graduate students in the areas of counseling and psychology. My joy comes from helping others regain control of life when cognitions, emotions, and behaviors have caused distress. We do not always understand the "why" of life experiences, however we can gain mastery of our thinking, feeling, and doing and continue to enhance functioning and happiness.

Are you searching for someone to listen to you? For many years, I have heard over and over clients say, “Thank you, I have just been wanting someone to listen to me - to hear me”. I have always felt led to sit and listen when a client went from answering assessment questions to opening up and spilling their heart. Assessment is essential to begin building a relationship between a client and counselor. However, I believe listening is just as important. I have been a licensed social worker for over 25 years. My love for helping people learn how to help themselves and redirect their thoughts and feelings led me to finishing my life long dream and career goal of returning to school and becoming a licensed counselor a few years ago. I, too, struggled with confidence and fear that it was too late for me to reach this dream. But something inside me kept telling me I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my career path of helping people. With the encouragement of a loving husband, and with my kids being grown, I finally had the time to work toward my goal. As a social worker in healthcare settings, there was always a force to push through situations and find resources quickly in order to get the patient home safely. I longed for more time just to let them talk through their fears and emotions in order to help them navigate to find their own strengths and solutions. I have found that one of the most important things for me to do for my clients is to sit and listen to them. With my clients over the years, I have gained experience in helping them work through stress, anxiety, depression, family dynamics, job loss, marital problems, physical limitations and/or disabilities, as well as long term life-altering situations. These situations often affect not only the individual, but their relationships with friends and family. I have spent many years working with the senior population in nursing facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, and in their own homes. These situations brought me to work with adults of all ages due to the circumstances affecting relationships with family and friends. I am a wife, a mother of two young adult children, a mother-in-law, a sister and a daughter myself. I understand and know how family dynamics affect an individual’s physical and emotional health in all aspects of their daily lives. I am currently taking adult clients of all ages and I look forward to working with you!
