My name is Christian I believe the therapeutic alliance with my clients is very important component of the treatment process. I work alongside my clients to help them through life difficulties such as major life changes, anxiety, family trauma, and depression. I love to assess what is helping and not helping my clients, then find unique clinical interventions that make real positive change. Small positive changes can lead to big changes. Hello and welcome. My name is Dr. Michele Kapalcik or “Dr. Michele” for short. I am a licensed Counselor and Therapist in several states. I have worked with helping a multitude of clients with many disorders and personal backgrounds. In addition, I have a Ph.D in Addiction Psychology with over 25 years of sobriety myself. I am very familiar with all stages of addiction and am eager to help. I am a very kind hearted caring individual who takes pride in understanding the personal issues of others and applying personal treatment to meet their needs. I work with each client from start of treatment to finish to preserve and strengthen the counseling relationship to our needs, in order to meet or exceed client expectations.

Greetings! Thank you for your consideration to enter into a therapeutic relationship with me. I would like to share a little background information to help you make an informed decision, prior to moving forward. I completed all of my formal education from The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), included a bachelors degree in Bio-Behavioral Health, a masters degree in Counselor Education/Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and a doctoral degree in Adult Education. My doctoral dissertation pertained to substance used disorders and spiritual development amongst human service professionals. I began working in clinical practice in 2002; since that time I have worked in various settings including: State Vocational Rehabilitation, outpatient practice, psychiatric hospitals, detox centers, and educational institutions. Specialization areas within my practice include: the blended family experience, depression and anxiety concerns, traumatic experiences, substance use concerns, and general aspects of phase of life adjustment. I currently reside on the eastern shore in Delaware with my wife and 3 children. In my free time I enjoy experiencing the outdoors, playing and building guitars, and engaging in activities with my family.

My specialty includes working with individuals/families that have experienced emotional and physical abandonment and/or are healing from narcissistic abuse in either parental/romantic/sibling relationships. In addition, I work with individuals that are struggling with the following: mood disorders, personality disorders, intimate partner violence; as well as those that have caused harm in relationships, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, betrayal trauma, and substance use disorder. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed care, meaning that I prioritize a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore and process their experiences. I have extensive experience working with individuals that have experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma in addition to the consequences of that trauma.

Throughout my career, I have worked with children, teens, and adults from diverse backgrounds as they follow a path of healing after sexual abuse. I have also worked with many individuals whose intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities influenced their sexuality and mental health. I am particularly interested in helping individuals whose concerns relate to: * Sexual trauma * Online victimization/exploitation * Discovering a loved one has been abused or has abused another * Emotional, social, and sexual concerns influenced by illness/disability * Caregiving * Vicarious/secondary trauma and professional burnout
